Likely a mockup page anticipating an item they don't have in stock yet, or an item they've discontinued...when i searched the site for this bike (cut and pasted the item name, then did it again with the item number) it "didn't find an exact match for my search."
They DO have 3 other models to choose from, at the low, low, Wal Mart price of $348.73.
@ceejeemcbeegee (just debatin' not hatin'): What are you driving? An H2? OK, we'll say it's an H2.
Why do you hate the environment?
@Michael Belisle: It would be a great commuter alternative if my office wasn't 22 miles away. So it's an hour in my car on the interstate in heavy traffic, or over an hour taking sidestreets on the Wonderbike™.
@badgeman46: Maybe they shorted? Good move with Barry Bonds under indictment...if he's convicted his card value will fall!
Ok, back on topic...
@Michael Belisle: Of course not. Communists don't have that kind of money! :-P
@Michael Belisle: Ummm. I drive one car that gets an avg of 24 mpg and another than has an avg of 26 mpg. In a 2 car household, we generally do about $400 in gas, so that's my monthly gas cost. The above poster could have three Prius's for all we know.
out of stock items not removed from the database just like this:
they used to sell it - but don't anymore (substituted for crappier box)
it's a better system than Sears though don't you think? ;-)
Thats nothin... I find this on walmart.com all the time.
Check this one out.. "Buy online, Out of stock online, Not sold online, Preorder, Preorders out of stock.. The joy of walmart shopping.

@Mykro:
I guess I could have just gave the direct link.. Sorry.
@MickeyMoo: The Mario Kart for wii isn't discontinued and it has the same thing going on. Its just preorder. There are some current items like Guitar Hero 3 ([www.walmart.com]) that are all screwed up, but you can still purchase.
@lonewolf333:
When I first saw your comment, I thought you'd written: "Only a Consumerist would buy that bike."
@chiieddy: Or the poster could have an Excursion and commute 10 miles to work. Then the question becomes, "Do you enjoy raping the environment?" (2 average cars indicates a mere dislike for mother nature.)
ah-hem! [www.revopower.com] A MUCH better technology! I will purchase one when they become available.
Buy a used bike and a hall effect kit and make your own.

If you want a decent range ( greater than 10 miles ), get a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack from a Shnaghai or HK vendor ( search for LiFePO4 on ebay ).
My e-recumbent goes 20+ mph, and moves my fat arse about 17 miles before it needs to be recharged ... and yes, I commute with it.
Oddly enough, up until a few months ago I was wanting to buy a similar electric bike, as I live in San Francisco, eco country!
Unfortunately, my physical therapy didn't pan out too well, so my doc wrote me a prescription for an electric wheelchair.
Wish it went faster than 5.8MPH though!
Still, it's nice to be able to zip along at about jogging speed virtually for free!
@SweetBearCub: Buy a used recumbent-trike off of craigslist. Then add a c-lyte 5303 hubmotor kit. Pay someone to put it together for you.
You'll get 25+ mph instead of 6 mph. With a 530x motor and a 48V LiFePO4 battery, you won't have to pedal, ever, unless you really want to.
@Mykro:
MarioCart? Whaaa? My link was for a Thomson RCA Digital TV Converter Box, DTA800 - they used to stock but has been replaced by something crappier and cheaper with a presumably higher profit margin...
@Michael Belisle: Ha, ha. I live in LA, gas is $3.75 a gallon, and I drive about 500 miles per week. And I have a Civic. Takes about $45 bucks to fill 'er up.
In the US, electricity mostly comes from hydro-electric dams or coal.
The US is the "Saudi Arabia" of coal ... which is why coal fired plants can make electricity so cheap. Filling my battery costs less than 50 cents.
Add more nuclear powerplants, and I will be even happier about rding an electric bike.
@Michael Belisle: Or two people who have to drive to work because there's no other transportation. My husband and I work 24 miles away in OPPOSITE directions. We both drive AWAY from the city to get to our jobs. There is no reliable public transportation to either of our current job locations.
On the other hand, my husband is getting a new job, we just don't know the location yet. If it's in the city, he'll be taking public transportation and our gas costs will halve.
I personally saw these bikes at two Wal Mart stores in the Dallas area. One store had no price maked the bike. The other store had it marked for $398.
Another thing...the spec card on the rack said it would go 18 miles, and even longer with the "optional" extra battery. But the bike on the rack had two batteries already.
This will be an awesome bike for many commuters and could seriously get millions of people out of cars and on bikes. Good for the gas budget for sure.
It's so cheap that if it only lasts a couple of years and has to be tossed into the recycle bin, it's still a great bargain.

Best $314.43 I never spent. O_o
