Get Rich Slowly points us towards an interesting short film by Martin Hampton that deals with 4 different "hoarders." One of them, a compulsive shopper, owes more in credit card debt than he does on his mortgage. He often buys the same product over and over again. [Vimeo]

Fantastic! Thank you for posting this.

That was excellent, and quite disturbing as well.

That was extremely sad.

I'm cleaning my apartment this weekend.

I buy the same thing repeatedly, except it's ammunition and I just go through that much of it at the range. Damn, it's getting expensive.

This kind of reminds me of my great grandmothers house. When she died and we had to clean it out, the entire house was just stacked with crap- there were little pathways through alll of the rooms in between 4 foot piles of merchandise, much of it unopened.

It's really sad how effective marketing is on those who lack the mental capacity to resist it, or who were born and raised before the bombardment started and don't have the coping skills we take for granted.

I just watched that video and it reminds me of how my old apartment could have turned. It helped that I kicked one guy to the curb and started dating one that really kicked my ass to get rid of crap I didn't need.

Still, this weekend I think I'll be cleaning out my closets and basement storage unit.
