Check Out The IRS's Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator
The IRS has more information about the upcoming economic stimulus payments. Woohoo!
The IRS says:
Stimulus payments will be sent out in the order of the last two digits of the Social Security number used on the tax return.They also have an online calculator that you can use to figure out how much dough you'll be receiving.Because the IRS will use the Social Security number to determine when checks are mailed, taxpayers may receive their checks at different times than their neighbors or other family members. On a jointly filed return, the first Social Security number listed will determine the mail-out time.
The IRS expects to make about 34 million payments within the first three weeks after the payment schedule begins May 2. With more than 130 million households expected to receive stimulus payments, more than 25 percent of the payments will be made in the first three weeks.
Taxpayers who choose direct deposit on their federal income tax returns can expect to receive their economic stimulus payments between May 2 and May 16 provided their returns were received and processed by April 15, 2008. For taxpayers who did not choose direct deposit on their tax return but whose returns were processed by April 15, the paper checks will be in the mail starting May 16, with the initial mailings completed by around July 11.

@Natheo: I can. Last to be picked alphabeticly, last picked at kickball, last to get my stimulus package, all because of alphabetic/numerical sorting. Okay, so the kickball one was more because of my athletic ineptitude instead of my last name.
I'm happy as the next guy to get money back from the government - lord knows I'll never see a dime of the social security money I pay out every month. However, this thing leaves me slightly nervous-sort of like, where exactly is this money coming from? I'd much rather see my ss money go into an interest-accruing locked account from which I'll see maybe 80% of after I'm 65 (and my family will get if I should die before then). The other 20% can go to other people.
@mthrndr: If that's what you want, put most of it in an IRA, and donate the rest to your favorite charity.
Hm, my husband is a non-resident alien, and we filed jointly. When I answer the questions on the calculator doohickey linked to, it gives me a big FAIL notice when I answer the first three questions... Am I not allowed to be stimulated by the government simply because I decided to love a man from Brazil?
@mthrndr: Apparently, this is a pre-payment on your income tax refund for FY 2008. Remember that when your tax refund sucks next year.
@surgesilk:
That's because GWB gave in to the liberal retards...
Redistribution of wealth, for the loss.
@Eli Reusch:
No, this is not a pre-payment and will never effect your tax returns! It's money given above and beyond your usual return.
That's a common misnomer. This isn't a prepayment of tax refunds. It's a reimbursal of future budgetary outlays. However, do you think that they will curtail spending in the next budget to match? I highly doubt it.
@baa: If the IRS has the ACH information for your checking account, they will pay through direct deposit, otherwise you'll get the money via check. So it would depend on how your bank handled the electronic payment, but most likely you have to wait for a check.
@DikembeMeiztombo: Cleveland wedges are almost unsurpassed in the business, but I've never liked their drivers or woods. The Cleveland Launcher (ca. 2002) was one of the worst drivers of the last ten years.
The HiBore seems to follow in its footsteps. One of the major features of a driver for me is purely psychological, and that's how it sets up at address. The high face combined with the weird lower topline is totally distracting, and isn't going to help keep the clubface square through the swing. Try a Cobra (great performance and not ridiculously priced) or a Titleist 907, hands-down the best drivers/irons out there.
Me, I use a Cobra SZ400 Tour driver, an old (relatively) Callaway Steelhead Plus 5-wood, Titleist DCI 2-iron, Cleveland TA5 irons (3-9), a Ping p-wedge, Titleist Vokey wedges (52, 56) and a Callaway Tuttle putter.
Sorry for TMI but can you tell, I can't wait for golf season ;)
@Eli Reusch: No, it's not. There will be an additional $600 (or so) tax credit for the 2008 tax year. But instead of waiting until 2009 to get it, you get it now.
I know it's free money and all, but according to the calculator I'm getting back less than I thought I would. I filed married filing jointly with an AGI of about 41,000 and 2 kids, and the calculator we get $1489 but I thought we would get $1200 + $300 per kid. I owed 0 in taxes due to child care credits and child tax credits ($889), so I'm wondering if somehow that factors in.
For couples we're way low on the AGI limit; I didn't think they'd start taking away some of the rebate until you got above that $150,000 amount.
Thanks Uncle Sam!!! Bring on the three card monty!!!!! *eyeroll*
Does anyone else find it odd that Congress stopped talking about the deficit around the time this got proposed???
Give us a real stimulus you dolts!

@qwickone: ::slaps forehead:: d'oh!
You know, my cynic in me says the come tax time 2009, the IRS will devise a way to get this stimulus money back into it's pockets. That's why it is carefully worded as a "payment" or "rebate" not a "return".
@ekthesy: Woah Woah Woah. Cleveland makes great drivers these days. I have the original Launcher 460 & still pound that thing. My buddy got the 1st HiBore & said it's the best driver he's hit.
We play bomb & gouge around these parts. Accuracy is not paramount when you're 40+ yards closer.
Check the Golf Digest Hot List.
Also can't wait for golf season.

I filed my taxes a month a go, and I still have to wait till May 16th to get stimulated.
