Was it their profits? I’ve heard they’ve been falling out of the sky recently…
Knowing US Airways it was probably someone’s luggage.
Is this the same plane that got shot by the pilot?
Did it fall off or was it shot off
it was boeing bomb. the peanut was a dead give away.
As the piece of plane arrived on the ground far ahead of schedule, USAirways used this to help bolster their on-time performance.
@Whitey Fisk: Knowing US Airways…it was probably someones puppy…
Comment heck?
No worries mate … we don’t need ailerons on this plane. We’ll steer with the rudder.
I call dibs!
@whoareyou: Sioux City’s a long way from here.
+1 to whoever gets that
Pilot probably shot it off. But they’re taking it seriously!
did it land in donnie darko’s room ?
Don’t lick the Blue Ice!
@BuddyGuyMontag: Nice United Flight 232 reference. Goddamn. Thought I’d never see the day when a one-in-a-million crash landing (saving over half the passengers) becomes a punchline.
Is there a reward for finding it??
@PHX602: +1 to you. I relish obscure references, and reward the people who get them.
The pilot made a nice living for himself doing speeches after he retired.

Picture at the link above – looks like a cell phone camera though, so not the greatest quality.
Looks like a piece of wing panel came off and hit a passenger window – the piece is non structural, so the worst it would’ve done was make a loud bang as it smacked the fuselage…still, not good. At least the engines on the 757 aren’t tail mounted, or else you can guess where that piece would’ve ended up…
The tangent universe has been destroyed.
Oh man. These comments are comedy gold.
Did anybody notice? The report ywgflyer links to states they are taking this seriously.
I guess taking off with the plane doors open isn’t good enough for them.
@EllenRose:
…even I didn’t notice that xD
I love how everyone goes right to the news outlets and makes it sound like the universe was about to collapse on itself, though. I guess nobody’s ever noticed that with the ground spoilers deployed (up) and flaps past about 20 degrees, you can see right through the wing (and in some planes, see the landing gear).
Funny story: departing from a layover in Miami to Chicago, our AA pilot came over the intercom to say “We’ll be backing away from the terminal shortly, once the maintenance crew finishes their paperwork. They had to do some welding to reattach a handle that fell off an access door during the previous flight.”
Oh, thanks Mr. Pilot Man. Please, tell us of more parts that randomly fall off during flight.
“Honey, there’s plane parts in the garden again!”
I was on Delta today at the John Wyn Airport going to Atlanta. We got delayed for 40 minutes. The capatain finally came on the PA and said that when he was doing the pre-flight inspection he noticed a piece fell off the plane. Now it was only the thing that activates the fun-slide if we crashed… but still.. TMI buddy… just tell us someone’s luggage was late.
