Walmart Apologizes For Making Fun Of A Muslim Woman Wearing A Veil

Walmart has apologized to a Muslim woman who said she was mocked by a Walmart employee as she paid for her items, says the Associated Press.

“Please don’t stick me up,” a cashier told the shopper on Feb. 2, according to the Nevada chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Wal-Mart apologized in a letter signed by Rolando Rodriquez, a vice president and regional general manager.

“I can assure you that the associate in question was disciplined in accordance with our employment policies as a result of the situation,” Rodriguez said without disclosing details.

The apology has apparently been accepted.

I’m more afraid of Fundamentalist Consumerists…

@arilvdc: actually, the Koran calls for the Prophet Mohammed’s wives’s to be veiled, but no other women. It also states that there is no compulsion in religion. Much like many other religious texts, it appears to be self-contradictory in places.

Employee was a dumb-ass. Sure Walmart apparently needs more robust customer courtesy training, but I don’t they are not responsible for the comment. Their response was appropriate and sufficient.

I’m not a big fan of CAIR either. They specialize in being the victim and too often go over the top. If they stuck to their mission statement and stopped over-reacting, then stuff like this would be a local issue.
