The Great 2008 Beef Recall's Cow Torturing Villains Revealed
Here are the booking photos of Westland/Hallmark Meat Co., employees, Jose Luis Sanchez and Daniel Navarro. They are both suspects arrested in connection with the animal abuse incident at the slaughterhouse.
They seem like pleasant mustachioed fellows.

They do look creepy, but one can't help but suspect they are just relatively lower level people who performed the actual acts. Not that these 2 shouldn't be punished if they did the deeds, but I would like to see mug shots also of the higher level suits who allowed conditions or enacted policies at the facilities that led to the animal abuse and selling of potentially tainted meat. It can't all be the fault of just 2 creepy guys. Somebody should have fired the 2 creepy guys BEFORE they did what they did, or the FIRST time they did it, or the SECOND time. There was pattern, right?
i hope the judge throws the book at them. if it turns out they're here illegally, the judge should throw the book at them, deport them, bring them back, throw the book at them again, slap them around for awhile, then deport them again. (if they're here legally, all the above applies except the "deport" part). i'm sorry, but cruelty to innocent creatures makes me not behave like a christian.
You people do understand that this is pretty normal for slaughterhouses, right? This isn't unusual. This is what happens to thousands and thousands of animals every day. Change slaughter from a skilled job to an unskilled one, drive down wages, get elected officials in your pocket and pay them to look the other way... Towns decimated, destroyed with poverty, with pollution, a country filled with unhealthy food from animals tortured to death. We have reaped what we have sowed. No living creature should be subjected to what passes for the norm in industrial farming.
I can't believe that most of you so smart Americans do not see this for what it is and stupidly blame these two hoodlams for what they did. These two were simply following corporate orders, what they did was plain and simple follow company policies and procedures and then they got caught doing it yes! But as far as they were concerned they were only doing their job. Why are you not asking that the judge throw the books at those who set this policy in motion (the CEO and corporate suits) and in order to maximize their capitalist profits. They order these two (and who knows how many more implicitly or explicitly as someone else already mentioned) to do the dirty did. You bet your hamburgers those cows were not the only cows in the history of this company that were slaughtered this way.

@kittenfoo: I am always amazed at how the "DEPORT ALL HISPANICS" element comes out of the woodwork whenever someone with an Hispanic surname does something wrong. Newsflash: SoCal has a large Hispanic population, and most of us were born here, too! I know you didn't say deport all Hispanics, but it becomes tiresome to read the same comments over and over again. I'll step down from my soapbox now.
Yeah, most likely these guys were doing just what they were trained to do, and management is quickly stepping away before they get caught up in the windstorm. While ignorance of the law is no excuse, these guys were probably just doing what they were told to do and didn't know any better. I want some management type mugshots now.
@FightOnTrojans: i think you are confusing DEPORT ALL HISPANICS with what people are actually saying: SECURE THE BORDER AND PREVENT THE ILLEGAL INFLUX OF PEOPLE MOSTLY FROM MEXICO.
right? you wouldn't attempt to defend that indefensible position with the usual "they are just taking the jobs that the legal residents don't want" b.s. line, right??
@forever_knight: In Prince William County in Virginia, they're getting ready to implement a crackdown on illegal immigration...basically if you are illegal and they pull you over for traffic violations or stop you for minor crime, and they have reason to suspect you're here illegally (an accent doesn't count, there are a lot of immigrants of all kinds in Northern Virginia) and they find out you are, you'll get deported. This totally isn't the same as rounding up all immigrants (or non-white/black people) and demanding papers. They're really only preventing those who are already here illegally from continuing to take advantage of the system, IMO. I know they're targeting Hispanic illegal immigrants because there seem to be more of them than any other ethnicity, but there are plenty of illegal immigrants of all ethnicities in the country...which is why it is strange when people ask about my opinion on the matter, and I don't side with the immigrants. I'm an immigrant, sure, but I was a toddler when that happened, and I am a US citizen first and foremost. I don't think of myself as an immigrant.
They abused cows, so at least we KNOW they will be facing some SERIOUS jail time! I doubt we will be hearing any cries of "Those two are too PRETTY to go to jail" like we heard from the lawyer for Debra LaFavre, the teacher who had an affair with one of her students. Abuse a cow and you will most likely get sent to Leavenworth, abuse a student and you will most likely get on the cover of People magazine!
If I were these two guys I'd let it be known if someone at the top didn't hire us some damn good lawayers and quick I'd be naming names of supervisors and higher up all the way up to the owners who I would say knew this was going on and encouraged it or at least turned a blind eye!
@kittenfoo: I totally understand where you are coming from, but if this issue here becomes "protect CEOs from the actions of their employees" and "deport all the brown people" then isn't that making everything so much worse. You need to focus on the real issue here.

Creepy...
