Office Depot's profit is down 85%... probably due to all those people using that $20 off coupon. Or something. [Marketwatch]

I am surprised this company is still around.

Being a former employee, I can tell you there is a lot wrong with that place. The problems started about two years ago when they stopped giving a shit about the customers or the employees. People got mad.
People don't spend money when they're mad.

I never saw a cent of my overtime and had to work through half of my breaks when I was employed at office depot (I finally quit ~5 years ago). And the "goal rewards" never showed up on my paychecks. :-\ (if we hit the monthly store / department profit goal everyone was supposed to get a small bonus)

A class action last year covered most of the $ lost to missed breaks, but I'm still out the overtime.

Burn in hell office depot.

Funny. I get all of my overtime and every single break. And management will go out of its way to help customers.

Wouldn't believe how many people come from Circuit City in the same parking lot with stories how they were blown off, ignored, or treated poorly by rude employees.

@BrentNewland:

Funny. I get all of my overtime and every single break.

Possibly because they were sued for breaking labor laws, and settled for a moderate sum. Fool me once and all that.

@BrentNewland:
(the lawsuit referenced):

06 CV 1690 DMS (WMC)

Eric Birch et al. vs. Office Depot Inc, et al.

"Plaintiffs contend that Office Depot owes the Class Members wages and penalties under California labor law. Specifically, Plaintiffs contend that Office Depot failed to provide meal periods and rest breaks in compliance with California law, failed to pay wages for missed meal periods and rest breaks, failed to pay wages for all time worked, failed to provide itemized wage statements, failed to pay final wages within the time periods proscribed by the law, failed to pay 'waiting time' penalties for the late payment of final wages, and engaged in unfair business practices based on those alleged violations."

Settled for 16 mil (minus fees) disbursed among all former California Office Depot employees that responded.
