TurboTax link is broken. But you can go to their main site and still see the deal:
[turbotax.intuit.com]
I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but if you're a State Farm customer, you can use and e-file through TurboTax Online for free. I just finished up my federal and two states.
There are a few other free tax preparation tools listed at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity: [www.bargaineering.com]
@sohmc: That worked for me. I had our taxes 99% done already, so I went ahead and filed today. That saved us about $70 in tax prep fees, yay!
@youbastid: Same here, for $19.45 (Vanguard discount). I'm being punished for filing early? Or is there a catch that it's "start for free" but still pay to finish? The fine print, "Prices determined at the time of print or eFile," seems to say that free isn't really free.
@RulesLawyer: All but the first say "Start for Free". Which product did you use? The one first one for simple forms that's now the Free Edition?
My son (income of $4000, poor high school kid) did his taxes last weekend on Turbo Tax and they tried to charge him $25 to file his state taxes (and his refund was only going to be $18). They say that it's free for NC, but that's not what the web site is telling us. And they are trying to make him pay to PRINT his return, just to have a copy of it. Not using TurboTax next year.
@sohmc: Okay. So apparently the only way to still get this discount is to call their support line.
1-888-777-3066 (direct to human)
The line goes to India. Just tell them that you saw the promotion on Consumerist (they'll ask you for the URL) and you're confused as to why it's asking you to pay.

As of 7:30 eastern time Turbotax link is already broken, lightbulbs are sold out.
