How long before this is an episode of House? Workers in a slaughterhouse in MN have developed a new disease that doctors suspect is caused by inhaling microscopic particles of pig brain. The worker's immune system attacks the particles, but then goes to work on the person's own nerve cells because they're so similar. [Washington Post via Kottke]

@toddiot: Well, it could be autoimmune. We've ruled out Lupus. What about tubular sclerosis? Get a spiral CT and a chem 7 to rule out Tularemia.
See? Now you're up to date.
@CumaeanSibyl: I'm sorry, what did you say? Was up late browsing internet porn on my MacAirBook, and iChatting w/Wilson.
@SadSam: Well, I eat it, but thank god I don't breathe it.
Is there some reason they couldn't protect against this by just cutting the pig's heads open the old-fashioned way? Seems like a saw wouldn't create as many aerosolized particles.
Finally, as someone who's allergic to everything, this freaks me the hell out. That is all.
@toddiot:
House shows total lack of concern for patient in his diagnosis. No one takes him seriously and he is threatened to be fired. Doctors toss around numerous ideas that fail. House comes up with rebellious plan unsupported by fellow staff members, is threatened termination yet again, and manages to bring patient back from brink of death in the last 2 mins. Everyone laughs and House reveals a tiny bit of his humanity.
I still heart House.
@alphafemale: Glad someone else has actually read that book.
After reading it, and then reading somewhere else that not too much has changed in the meat industry I reconsidered how "tasty" sausages and hamburger are.
Well that and I knew a guy who worked for the people who do meat inspection and he said he would NEVER eat those things unless he personally saw them made...
Somebody told me about how they went to visit their wife's family (wife grew up on a farm). Had the most delicious fried vittles for breakfast, and got told afterwards that it was fried pig brains. They referred to it by another term, but I think I'd like to try pig brains some time, just so I can say I have, and freak/gross out vegetarians.
@toddiot: Her toe was broken and bleeding marrow into her system, causing all sorts of problems. He didn't see it cause she left her socks on during the remote exam. She didn't feel it cause cold makes your extremities numb. The technician guy reset her toe and she was all better. Wilson is dating cutthroat bitch (but you probably gathered that from yesterday's episode).
@kylevester: But wait! Stop the surgery! It can't be sarcoidosis. Wilson reminded me that nothing is as it really should be... And after I roll my eyes and twirl my cane, and I'm going to have hte epiphany du jour: This Orthodox lady doesn't have autoimmune; she doesn't have deep-vein Vitus Geralitis; she has a brain in her uterus. See what I mean? Now give me a lap dance or get the fuck out.

were all going to die.
