Personal experience:
Approximate number of trips to Home Depot in my 12 post-college years where I didn’t own a house: 5
Approximate number of trips in the 4 months after buying my house; 30
No new home purchases = No Home Depot trips.
I went to Home Depot the other day to buy a snow shovel (mine broke), and guess what– they don’t sell them! IN THE MIDDLE OF F****** WINTER IN THE NORTHEAST!!!
The nice lady told me they took the winter stuff off the floor weeks ago, to make room for the spring stuff, fertilizers and grass seed and mowers and whatnot.
No wonder they’re losing money. Sell me what I need today, not 2 months from now.
The HD near me, attached to a giant mall, never has an open register on weekday evenings. Its all self checkout. Unless they’re paying me to check myself out, I’ll head to the bright, shiny, happy Lowe’s down the street.
Similar to the shovel story, the one near me had no rock salt last time I was there.
@savvy999:
Wow – that story is full of win! lol
Home Depot deserves it. I have TWO within 2 miles of my home. Both in the middle of a Saturday will often have only one real register open, with at least have a dozen clerks hovering by the self service checkouts, talking among themselves.
They also constantly adjust what they stock based on sales levels, so you can buy a sink that requires a pop-up drain, but not be able to buy the required pop-up drain because they don’t carry it.
I too have become a Lowe’s first person, Menards second and Home Depot only in desperation.
