Law & Order Does Ripped From Consumer Headlines Show

2214 views

OMG, is anyone else watching Law & Order right now? They're doing an episode based around that judge who sued a dry-cleaner for $54 million over a pair of lost suit pants. UPDATE: And there's a Wal-Mart improper relations between co-workers angle, too! The shirts are yellow and the place is called "Savings-Mart." UPDATE: And a poison toothpaste from China angle! Same as was in the headlines, glucose replaced by antifreeze, then the tubes were dumped on discount stores, prisons, mental institutions, and old folk's homes. UPDATE: I missed it but apparently when the detectives walk in the Savings-Mart execs apartment, he tells them to not trip over the Thomas the Tank Engine. That wouldn't be the Thomas The Lead-Painted Tank Engine, now would it?

Yeah, too funny.

(Patiently waiting three hours..... sigh)

All characters and events are fictional. Any similarity to any people, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

user-pic

I love it. They just need to throw in a sub-prime angle now.

user-pic

Whoa! You get really excited over, like, consumer issues and such.

user-pic

Three top stories from 2007, poison imports, walmart's Julie Roehm executive affair scandal, and the lost pants. I thought the writers were on strike? This is some good stuff.

user-pic

Yes, it was very cool. Ben, are you moonlighting for the Law & Order writing team?

user-pic

Ok. NBC owes you some ad revenue. Being on the west coast, I will watch it in 2 1/2 hours for the first time in 3(?) years.

user-pic

This begs the question which actors would be ideal to play Ben, Meg, Cary and Chris???

user-pic

If the writer's strike ever ends, I could see L&O doing an episode where a Geek Squad-like tech support team hijacks porn from computers they are fixing.

user-pic

Chris = Daniel Day Lewis
Ben, Meg, & Carey = Zelda Rubenstein, playing all three roles via the magic of digital technology.
This is just a suggestion.

user-pic

@faust1200: Ben- (a young)Gene Hackman, Meg- Julianne Moore, Carey- Antonio Banderas, Chris- Phillip Seymour Hoffman

user-pic

@faust1200: I demand to be played by Diane "Fucking" Keaton.

"is anyone else watching Law & Order right now?"

right now? it amazes me that people still watch live tv.

but i guess anyone who'd bother to DVR Law & Order might also give it a low priority so watching it live might be the only way to catch it. :-P

user-pic

@Meg Marco: I see you more as a "Diane Lane".

user-pic

Law and Order: CPD (Consumer Protect Division)

Matthew Mcconaughey will play moi, obvs.

user-pic

Yesterdays SVU was better and even that used a stereotyped image.

user-pic

L&O: CI did an episode with poison mouthwash last year. IIRC it even involved some cover up at a city consumer group.

user-pic

watching on the west coast - a (probably lead-filled) Thomas the Tank Engine made a cameo, too!

user-pic

That's way too many angles for 40 minutes!!

I can't wait to watch it. I hope it's on soon....or I'll try to find it online.

user-pic

@superjanna: I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt the Thomas the Tank Engine cameo fit in to the consumerist vibe nicely also.

user-pic

Yep and this my friend is why L&O is the best ish on the TV.

user-pic

@Papa Midnight:
A friend of mine had a walk-on role in that SVU episode as one of the Hassidim in the synagogue scene.
(He's an orthodox Jew, but not Hassidic, so they had to give him fake sideburns and the garb and everything)

user-pic

On occasion they will state the show is based on an actual case. A few years ago they did a string of shows based on cases that occurred in San Diego. But I was too busy playing Mass Effect last night, I guess I will be waiting for the re-run now.

user-pic

Are you live-blogging Law & Order? That is too funny. Maybe you should make it a regular feature of the site.

user-pic

Lord L & O has so jumped the shark...

user-pic

Darn, I missed it. Guess I'll have to catch the re-run. Now if only I could find out when Law & Order re-runs air...

user-pic

why is nbc one of the last networks to put full episodes of their tv shows online? and L&O isn't on fancast.com either. i wanted to watch this on my lunchbreak since i only caught snippets last night. (but i did catch enough of it to freak out like ben did about it being about judge fancypants.)

user-pic

it amazes me that people still watch live tv.

@world-inferno:
If you aren't busy when something comes on, why bother using the DVR? Just watch it.

user-pic

I don't watch Law & Order, but I watch Boston Legal and they do the same thing. This season they had a case of a shock jock fired for making inappropriate comments, taking on a bank for an employee of the firm when the bank attempts to foreclose on his home, etc. Why not?
