The coffee is now indeed exceptional, for a fast food restaurant.
@Vilgrom: They’ve outsourced their coffee to regional brands. In some areas, it’s still not all that great.
That probably also includes the very successful and tasty Chipotle!
@Rain-man: I thought they sold Chipotle?
If I liked plain coffee or frappacinos, I’d give it a shot. Too bad I’m an espresso snob.
@Vilgrom: “for a fast food restaurant” — Consumer Reports rated McD better than Starbucks and other national chains, so you might not even need that conditional. Personally I haven’t had McD coffee, but it’s hard to get worse than regular coffee at Starbucks.
Yeah, they totally sold Chipotle, and made a pretty penny off the deal to boot.
McDonald’s is rolling out espresso drinks. Cheaper than Starbucks, and i dare admit that they’re better than most of the crap out there. I don’t eat their food (okay maybe a very occasional egg mcmuffin or that fruit and yogurt thing) but the coffee is top notch, to the point that I roll McDonald’s for the morning tank of drip because it’s that good.
One of the McD’s in West Seattle (Westwood Village for you locals) has the full espresso line they’re testing. It’s still got kinks, but as that end of town is coffee hell if you want a froofy latte, i have been pleasantly surprised. Downtown, i’m still going to my nice local cart dude.
Those snack wraps are tasty, and comparitively good for you (Compared to the rest of their menu.)
Fun fact: A chicken Mcnugget from McDonalds is 56% corn, and contains traces of Butane.
Glad they’re doing well.
I hate Chipotle.. Overpriced burritos!
their new Ice coffee is great. 2 bucks and a get a cup way bigger than a 5 dollar starbucks coffee and tastes better.
good for them.
@COMEAJA: Our facts & figures differ. My own research suggests that a chicken mcnugget from McD’s is 99% delicious and contains trace amounts of free smiles.
@Rain-man:
McDonalds no longer has much of a stake in Chipotle. CMG has, however been screaming this year.
@mandarin:
Say was you will about their food (I personally like it) but you cant argue with 166% gains in the trailing 12 months. Those overpriced burritos have proven to be gold.
What happened here? A march of McD fans stumble onto consumerist? Let me go out on a limb and say, this is bad news. McDonalds is disgusting, and I would wish it on my worst enemy (and especially not on people who just can’t afford better). Maybe things have changed in the last few years, I haven’t been there in a while. I also don’t drink coke or pepsi, so maybe I’m just not American anymore…
@jeffeb3: Oh, without a doubt, most of us know how disgusting McDs actually is. I only go for food a couple times a year as a treat. Kind of like eggnog. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone as a staple of their diet though. But for coffee, I don’t think its any worse than stopping at Dunkin Donuts. You know most of the pastries at Starbucks are just as bad nutrition-wise as a McMuffin.
Actually, McDonald’s regular coffee has long been a best kept secret as far as I’m concerned. As long as I can remember, it’s been the best you could get from a chain with a drive-thru. Anti-McDonald’s elitism is just that, IMHO. They sell some unhealthy food just like StarBucks, but I guess their clientele isn’t as hip.
I lived off of chicken caesar salads and fruit ‘n yogurt parfaits through college, heh. I begrudging love the Golden Arches! Their iced coffees are insanely good.
@xtc46:
Personally I think Dunkin Donuts has the best Iced coffee. The Blueberry iced is my fav, with hazelnut being a close 2nd.
Its seems McDonald’s doesn’t double brew their iced coffee, so in a matter of 10 minutes, it tasted really watered down IMO.
I tend to like bolder roasts though. For anyone who likes espresso , give Lavazza a shot, one of the few shots I have had w/o any bitterness.
Dunkin definitely gets my vote for best coffee products, though indeed McD’s has improved.
The only time I partake of McDs much beside the occasional coffee or McGriddle, is when the McRib is in town, which is funny because their current campaign is the “McRib Farewell Tour 3.” I can’t help but think it’ll never go away, not that I want it to or anything…
Good to see that, as usual, horiffic business practices = big profits
Actually, I hear that their premium coffee hasn’t changed at all from what it used to be – just a bigger marketing push and more attractive packaging.
