Updated Nested Comments Script Released

YogurtEart has released a new update to his awesome nested comments script. This is an optional Firefox + Greasemonkey add-on that makes it so comments that reply to one another appear below each other and indented. Personally, I find this makes following the various sub-conversations within a thread easier. Supports Firefox with GreaseMonkey and Opera with Opera UserJS. The new version fixes the problem of the commenter buttons getting smooshed next to each other within a nest.

It’s nice to see that commenter’s are worthy of advancements in their commenting world.

  8. chulo_allen says:

Humm, it works! but what about the other sister sites? like gizmodo – or for that, all the Gawker Media sites?

  9. wring says:

    finally! @BigNutty: seconded. especially jezebel.

Looks good. But I’ll never install Greasemonkey again until Mozilla gets javascript working a lot better. I’m tired of seeing Firefox max out the CPU for quite a few seconds, and that’s just the stuff that gets loaded on pages, not Greasemonkey scripts.

It’s not working on Kotaku :(

  12. faust1200 says:

@Project Thanatos: Earl’s notes say just Consumerist and Lifehacker. Hopefully this script works for longer than a week. (The time in takes for Gawker to switch up the site somehow.)

  13. Buran says:

    Hey, I’m on TV. ;)

    Thanks guys!

  14. Buran says:

@Bryan Price: You can install it and then leave it turned off except when you specifically need it either via the site include/exclude list or by clicking the monkey face on the status bar to toggle it.

  15. Buran says:

@chulo_allen: The default list IS rather small and should be expanded. Fortunately, you can add to it on your own in the Greasemonkey extension options screen.

What’s the full list of sites? Anyone got one?

I came across this recently. Not sure how it works yet as I haven’t had time to play with it but looks like it might help where you want to track comments you make at various blogs:

  17. putch says:

    why doesnt everyone use slashcode?

  18. tahl says:

@faust1200: You have to add [kotaku.com] and [www.kotaku.com] to the Included Pages list. I did that with Gawker and Jezebel.

  19. faust1200 says:

@tahl: Thanks for the tip! I successfully added Gizmodo.

  20. StevieD says:

Why not fix the site such that every browswer is compliant with the nesting comments?

Yes, I really do use IE7. So does a big % of the USA.
