There was a live turkey trade deficit of $4.9 million for the first half of this year. But we had a $9.4 million surplus of cranberries, and $15.3 million of sweet potatoes. [WSJ]

How do you run a trade deficit on LIVE turkeys? Where are we buying our turkeys from!?

I'm not surprised. As far as I know, cranberries and sweet potatoes are ONLY grown in the US - but turkeys can be raised anywhere. They're like ugly, mad, large chickens.

Yo, those ugly chickens are mad large!

I'm surprised the surplus of sweet potatoes is larger than the surplus of cranberries. But then you can't add sweet potatoes to apple and grape juice.

@Rectilinear Propagation: oh, but you can! I just bought some V-8 juice that has sweet potatoes in it! It's peach mango something, and the first ingredient is sweet potato. Watered down, it makes a fine juice for my toddler. And with added gin, makes a fine cocktail for mama.
