How To Do Neato Formatting In Comments
Here's a primer on how you can bold, italicize, hyperlink and blockquote in The Consumerist (or any Gawker blog) comments.
Please remember to close your format tags by putting the necessary close tag. Otherwise your formatting will run over everyone else's chit chat.
Likewise, if you notice someone forgot to close their comments, you can do it for them by adding the necessary close tag as a comment. — BEN POPKEN

I always wondered where the @ notation of quoting someone came from. Is that an unofficial convention? Should it be combined with blockquote like:

Huh. It's an interesting image, but a mite bit large, isn't it? And it might be nice to have a ending image as well, but maybe I' just being greedy. Is it possible to have an endquote image on the right side of the blockquote?

Hey, thanks for the tip that you can put a close tag on somebody's comment (by putting it at the start of yours) after they forget. Never knew that.
I like SuperJdynamite's idea of leaving a guide to supported HTML tags somewhere that's easily accessible. If not above the comment box, then maybe have a quick link handy so while we're writing our snarky comments, we can quickly look up the tags.
Alas, one of my favorites, the STRIKE tag doesn't seem to work :(

Stick with <b> and <i>.

I liked the old blockquotes better-- to be honest, the graphic images don't look like "quotes" to me. Maybe something a little more "quotey"?
And I would love strikeout, but we can't have everything.

I like the way that blockquotes work on the Giz, just a nice aqua/greenish rounded rectangle around the text.

strikethrough would be nice addition to increase snark value.
as a feature request, "nested" comments would be much easier from a readability standpoint.. Its difficult to follow a conversation when the reply's are way down below in the comments.. I spend lots of time scrolling up and down to follow discussions..

I also don't like the huge quotation marks that don't look like quotation marks. A colored box around a quoted comment like someone else already mentioned would be much better. Nested comments would be great, too.
