According to one reader’s report, Amazon free shipping for Prime users and free Super Saver shipping isn’t working. An Amazon rep told that their system is experiencing a major problem and that his account is among the first to be affected. Anyone else seeing this?

I’ve used this for a year and never experienced a problem. Since I use Amazon for just about everything, I will continue the service.
I just (like, 15 minutes ago) ordered something on Amazon using Super Saver free shipping, and it worked without a problem.
It works just fine. Perhaps this user doesn’t realize that these programs only work on items sold by Amazon.com and not on other sellers on Amazon.com’s website.
@ShadowFalls:
Good point. I also think a lot of people don’t realize that Super Saver is no longer the default shipping option.
(Of course, I’m not necessarily ruling out the possibility that they’re really having problems.)
One person says Amazon’s glitchy, and this is blogworthy?
@Robdew2
If you’ve got a certain number of articles (read: ad impressions) you want to create a day, you’ve got to post whatever you can, even if it’s unverified, “one source” garbage.
I haven’t had a “problem” but I have seen Amazon’s shipping work extremely inefficiently as of late.
Ordered 2 Wiis 2 weeks ago with 2 day shipping. One came UPS 2-day, the other one was sent FedEx overnight ($$).
Then today, I received a new cutter blade/foil for my electric razor + the cleaning fluid tanks for it. 5 separate boxes sent via USPS, each with their own postage on them. All of it probably would have fit in one box too.
I was the one who reported this yesterday. I spent over 20 minutes on the phone with Amazon and they could not figure out the problem since the items were Prime eligible and it wanted to charge me $17 for normal free shipping and over $40 for 2-day.
While I was on they started getting other calls with the same problem. The CSR’s supervisor said it was a widespread problem caused by a system upgrade. They told me to submit the order and they would refund the shipping later.
Super Saver looks to be working just fine.

That is, unless you want to start your own blog.
I ordered an item from Amazon on Wednesday and I elected for two day shipping, I actually got the order on Thursday and was seriously surprised. I’ve had no problems with them in the last 6 months…
I ordered a book via Amazon Prime (free two-day) and it arrived on schedule. No problem here.
@Consumerist Moderator – ACAMBRAS: It’s a valid criticism. Get over it.
I’m a Prime user and just made a purchase this morning with no problem. Hopefully the system problem doesn’t spread.
@MAMEDENNIS
Has super saver ever been the default shipping method? Before I signed up for prime, I always had to move the radio button from standard shipping to super saver.
The only issue I have is on my subscribe and save items (diapers, detergent etc…). The orders are meant to be 2 day prime (free), but they keep shipping them super saver. They say they are “aware of the problem”, but can’t fix it
I ordered stuff earlier today and had no problem. Looks like it’s just one server, maybe, causing it.
@Elijah-M: I know some of my last posts are against people who complain about the blog worthyness of anything posted here… and I’m going to have to continue to agree with my previous position.
Why do people take such rediculous jabs at moderators and and writers online? your getting something for nothing. Contribute to a conversation with something that counters the points already made. Maybe not you in particular Elijah-M, this is only my response that it isn’t a valid criticism.
“Not working” meaning what, exactly?
I am experiencing this problem with Super Saver shipping. The order I placed on November 11th for two in-stock books from Amazon has not yet shipped. According to Amazon.com, shipping estimate for the order is listed as: December 12 – December 26.
Huh?
Free shipping is no longer available for diapers for non-prime customers anymore. That makes shopping at amazon for diapers pointless now
