Wait, so you’re saying there’s no Nobel Prize for Racketeering? I’ve wasted my life!
If you follow the link, he looks kind of like Pappy O’Daniel in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”!
An old man is going to jail because he messed with the police and prosecutors’ sweet deal. Their incompetence was made public and they got back at him. End of story.
@swalve: so how is it that our former governor (john g. rowland) was indicted in a similar situation? the cops loved him.
oh, that’s right, it was a federal investigation! even with his long arms & deep pockets, he couldn’t reach those damn tight-asses at the doj.
imho, the punishment for abusing a public office for personal gain should be a life sentence. & none of that cake-walk sleep all day supermax b.s. i’m talking 16-hr/day chain gang-type prison with bosses that carry shotguns & make you dig holes & fill them back in for a week when they catch you smiling once.
It’s worth noting that any old fool can be nominated for a Nobel prize (really, anyone). It’s making the cut that makes the difference.
@trai_dep: I’d like to emphasize this point. Any schmuck in any poli sci department can nominate you for the peace prize. It’s not even remotely prestigious.
@trai_dep: what is the price of a nobel prize nomination (in terms of government contracts, of course)?
@swalve: Alternatively, some old bastard who was so crooked that he had to screw his pants on in the morning found a social cause that he shamelessly pimped in an attempt to avoid jail time.
