They forgot Run by Ann Patchett.

A hundred paperback books come in a much larger box anyway. Win-win, right?

They forgot that women write books too.

Interesting question this brings up--would a bookworm prefer a Kindle or 100 physical books? I'd definitely opt for the latter.....

Interesting that Amazon does not disclose how many units of this overpriced gadget they sold... but maybe it is succeeding:

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #1 in Kindle Store

WOW ! :)

@lukobe: Actually, a fairer (costwise) comparison would be: 20 books or a Kindle. (This takes into account that most books on the NYT list are at least $20.)

Now... for the algebra lovers among us, what would I rather have?

100 books at $20 or 1 Kindle + x books at $10?
100*20 = 400+10x

So... 100 physical books vs. a Kindle plus 160 books. Well, now I'll go for the Kindle combo, wouldn't you?

@witeowl:

Except that the book's batteries won't die in the middle of the last chapter.

Neither will the book's screen.

Books also don't typically suffer from burn-in and ghosting.

@RvLeshrac: Since I won't have either $2,000 bundle gifted to me this holiday season, it doesn't quite matter. Nevertheless:

1) Neither will these. Thousands of page turns, battery life of days. On the flip side, when I do finish the last page, my next book is ready and waiting.

2) Possibility - new technology always has problems, but that didn't stop me from adopting an mp3 player over my clunky CD player when that technology came out.

3) Seriously? I haven't had burn-in or ghosting since my C-64 days... OK, maybe my 386. Burn-in and ghosting are not likely to be issues unless you think technology is going backwards.

Amazon sold out. OK, call me old fashioned, but DRM on books is Not OK with me.
