IRS Grants Tax Relief To California Wildfire Victims
The IRS is extending deadlines for those of you within the Presidental Disaster Area caused by the wildfires.
Taxpayers in the Presidential Disaster Area -- consisting of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties -- will have until Jan. 31, 2008, to file returns, pay taxes and perform other time-sensitive acts.More information about casualty losses and other disaster related issues is available at the IRS's website.The extended deadline applies to items due on or after Oct. 21, 2007, when the fires began, and on or before Jan. 31, 2008. This includes the federal withholding tax return, Form 941, normally due Oct. 31, and the estimated tax payment for the fourth quarter, normally due Jan. 15.

@BigNutty: Actually if some people are like me, they would have freaked out at the idea that the IRS was going to nail their asses to the wall despite circumstances beyond their control.
In 2002 I was in a town that nearly burned down due to a forest fire, days before the actual evacuation they had stopped mail service, and I had just mailed off a tuition payment for my university. I ended up having to call and ask for them to expect the payment to be late because of this situation, thankfully they were understanding.



But if you don't file on January 31, the IRS will count to 3... then they'll send Dad in with the belt.
