Find Decent Holiday Airfare By Adjusting Your Dates

1187 views

It's not too late to get good deals for Thanksgiving and Christmas airline tickets, reports WSJ, but you will have to be flexible with your dates. This is made easier because Christmas and New Year's are Tuesdays this year. For instance, a NY-Las Vegas roundtrip, Nov 21-Nov 25 would cost you $1,095 on American. If you instead leave Thanksgiving Day and come back Tuesday, it's only $335. Primetime seats will cost you a beautiful ugly penny, but if you slide your dates around, you can find more palatable fares.

I'd like to either visit my bf or have him come here, but why travel at the same time when everyone else is? Offset your trip a bit and save.

Ok Ben what's the point of the funky looking calendar thingy?? Please enlighten.

@JohnMc:

Yes, I would like to know what is up with the Calendar as well?

I'm on the calendar bandwagon here. It looks cool and I think I can work a similar version for 2008.

Wow, the blog entry mentioned in that flickr link is freakin' AWESOME. Some of the submissions are breathtaking! I want one!

You can save money on holiday travel by not flying on peak dates? Whoaaaaaaa. Blew my mind!

@junkmail: I must be really tired, 'cuz I just don't get it.

@ceejeemcbeegee: It's an entire calendar on one page. Not entirely useful to me, because I usually know the day (Thursday) and not the date (25th).

You pick the date (25) and follow up the column until you get the row with the current month in it (October) and Voila... it's Thursday!

This Calendar is great. Most of us know that today is twenty-something of Oct. So by looking to Oct and it's Friday you just go down until you hit the date. I am always off by a few days when I have to write a check. This is getting copied and added to my check book.

Just appreciating it from a design sense. I neither need nor want to know what day it is usually. I just dig the execution. Does that make sense?
