aol’s message boards are THE biggest joke ever.
It’s rough to be out of the job, but America had to outgrow it’s internet training wheels at some point.
i bet all 2000 of those jobs were in the “cancelling aol” department (a/k/a “retentions” in companies that actually retain customers).
Laying off thousands of people is never good, but AOL has really sullied their name. In the early days of the internet, AOL = internet. But over the years, they really screwed up their reputation and public image through watered-down internet, poor customer service, and broken software. I’m not sure they can come back from the brink of irrelevance, which is unfortunate for all of the other employees that are sure to be layed-off in the near future.
HAA HAA!! I hope AOL’s internet “service” disappears forever, and as for the people who lost their jobs, well, I’m sure Wal-Mart is hiring or something. Seriously, my employer made the mistake of hiring an ex-AOL employee at one point, and he’s the only one I can remember people being afraid might come back with a gun after we fired him for hopeless incompetence. I understand that they employ thousands of people and that this one guy is in no way representative of them all, but dammit, he was exactly what I imagine AOL employees to be like.
