14,431,550 Products Recalled For Lead Contamination Since January
Consumerist's ongoing lead recall tally has reached 14,431,550 products recalled just for lead in the first 10 months of 2007. October, in addition to increasing our product tally, also saw the debut of two new countries of origin for lead recalls. Welcome, Taiwan and Vietnam!
October's lead recalls involved lead tainted products from (formerly) trusted brands such as Disney's "Baby Einstein" and Fisher-Price's "Dora The Explorer," but lead tainted products are showing up everywhere. Even on top of cakes.
For example: Does your child like football? Did you get him or her a cake with an NFL bobblehead on it? Did you let them lick the frosting off of the cake decorations? Bad idea. 80,000 NFL-themed cake decorations were recalled for lead contamination.
Maybe you bought some "ugly teeth" party favors for your kids Halloween party? You know, the ones they put in their mouths so it looks like they have awful teeth? Bad idea. Some of those have been recalled because they are tainted with lead paint. Or maybe ugly teeth weren't your thing, but you picked up "skull" candy dispenser? Or a Halloween candy pail from Family Dollar?

Good googly. Reading the description of those teeth makes me pretty sure they were in the pinata at my daughter's Halloween party this past weekend.
Time to hit the phones..."Hi, Mrs Friend's Mom? Yeah, hi...those teeth your kid came home wearing? They're gonna make him dumb- trash 'em...'kay, bye!" :P
i'd be willing to bet they don't mean 14.5 million different products were recalled. they have got to be counting the actual number of each item that was recalled here and are wording it in a way to get a reaction out of everyone.

How long before parents are paying 20% more for toys labeled "LEAD FREE!!!" or "CHILD SAFE!"?

I just like how the preceeding article is the CPSC Chair Nancy Nord saying that more regulation will hurt the industry... by chance would the industry having no more customers because they died of lead poisoning hurt the industry?

In Bentonville, Christmas apparently starts in October. Yesterday, without a shred of irony, Wal-Mart announced the official commencement of the "Christmas season." Yes, on Halloween... the holiday with the least possible amount of Christmas spirit. I'm not sure Santa would approve of that.
Christ... I'm gonna have to make all the trick or treaters sign statements stating they understand I am not responsible for any dangerous aspect of the candy/party favors I give out tonight.
