In a gesture to assuage China's injured pride in advance of an on-site visit by the CEO, Mattel apologized to China for the "design flaws" responsible for most of this summer's toy recalls. [AP]

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

Uh ... what?

Who exactly forced suppliers to use lead paint? There's unleaded paint out there. The suppliers' cost cutting is no one's fault but their own.

@ShadeWalker: That way their workers in China won't be executed - that could really hold up the holiday shipments if the Chinese Execution Van shows up at the factory!

To be honest, it's probably addressing the magnet issues with Polly Pocket-type toys, which would be an engineering problem on Mattel's side.

It DOES seem overbroad, though, especially since Mattel has had the lead paint issues as well. Sounds like someone told them to either take the blame, or not do business in China... which would put Mattel out of business.
