Woman Caught "Faking" Slip-And-Fall At Florida Grocery Store

11566 views

Step 1) Locate olive oil aisle.

Step 2) Attempt to open olive oil. Fail.

Step 3) Come back in a few minutes.

Step 4) Open a new bottle of olive oil, pour it on the floor.

Step 5) Come back in a few minutes. Pretend to fall.

You guys can fill in the rest of the steps, just make sure to include "wait for paramedics."

Yeah I saw this in the news last night. Thank God for surveillance cameras.

user-pic

I'm glad she didn't get away with this. Food prices are rising too fast to have to add fake lawsuits to the cost sheet.

user-pic

I used to work in the Risk Management department of a major Super Market chain. This included both workers' risk and customers' risk. And "staged" incidents are, unfortunately, common and happen a few times a year. Security camera tapes are ALWAYS reviewed in each case, along with questioning of co-workers, nearby potential witnesses, etc. It eliminates a lot of fake claims. I'm surprised this particular slip and fall is news - it happens all the time, sadly.

user-pic

How about rather then trying to be a cheating bastard, this lady should maybe consider getting a job and working like the rest of us have to. I hate people like this...

user-pic

OMGWTFBBQ... hilarious. It's actually very hard to fake an accidental "slip" convincingly (as the guy said, fall backwards not forwards).

Bad consumer! This is why multinationals hate us!

user-pic

How stupid do you have to be to NOT realize that cameras are EVERYWHERE? If you're gonna fake it put some effort into it. Bust a hip on the way down or something.

user-pic

That'd suck...fake a slip so well that you do bust your hip, then have the insurance claim denied since it was self-inflicted during an act of attempted fraud.

user-pic

Or at least have an accomplice. Like some jerkwad kid that comes by and "knocks" a bunch of olive oil off the shelf.

user-pic

I could see this working a lot better with a second person to spill the olive oil. That, combined with a convincing backwards fall, is sure to win a lawsuit or two.

user-pic

My mom helped out a restaurant that was sued for the same thing. A woman was suing the restaurant because she said she slipped on ice or something by the entrance. Well my mom had just parked and was walking towards the door and saw the woman slowly and intentionally get on all fours and then throw herself on her back. Restaurant didn't have security cameras so if my mom didn't testify then who knows how it would have turned out.

user-pic

Again, I'm confused -- I thought Step 1 was "cut a hole in the box..."

user-pic

@acambras: I'd like to see this turned into a music video, wouldn't you?

user-pic

Despicable is the word that comes to mind.

user-pic

I hope she gets like 400 hours community service since in the end she was trying to hurt everyone with her selfish lazy act.

user-pic

@Sherryness: I think it's news because it's so blatant, and so clearly caught on the tape.

Really funny stuff. "Oh, I slipped. And slipped again while you were trying to help me up...."

user-pic

They shouldn't have told her. They should have let the woman sue her and played the video for her for the first time at the trial. I'd would have loved to see the look on her face as she saw the video for the first time.

user-pic

i bet this was the same woman that used her kids to steal from walmart

user-pic

It's gonna be awesome when she gets the ambulance / hospital bill.

user-pic

@TimSPC:

And leave her with the attorney fees... HA!

user-pic

you mean everyone doesn't use their kids to steal from walmart?!? **looks around awkwardly**

user-pic

@TimSPC: Only if they immediately filed a counter-suit for legal fees and then have the appropriate law enforcement agent arrest her for fraud.

Uppercut, uppercut! Knockout!

user-pic

The only thing that bothers me is this is squarely (1) pro-business, (2) anti-litigation, and (3) the subject is fat and black. It's the type of clip my most conservative relatives would jump for joy to see. No wonder the media is all over this. Yes, her actions are reprehensible, but in the grand scheme of things, this is much tinier and less damaging than, say, corruption of county commissioners or some giant company sodomizing people for false bills and noncancellation of accounts. Priorities.

user-pic

@Red_Eye: I hope as part of her punishment they make her really slip on oil. Then have everyone in the courtroom point and laugh Nelson style HA HA!!

user-pic

@timmus: Ok so there is no reason to say anything about her race, she is scum no matter what race she is.

user-pic

Timmus, I agree... but on the same hand, we cant always complain about the "big, bad corporations" and pretend there arent consumers out there who want to take advantage of the system as well.

But really, I do hear you, and I think that the conservative relatives you speak of (I have them too) dont need this to feel the way they do, and if this had never happened, they would still feel the same way. Sadly...

user-pic

"Hellllooo Captain Obvious."

I can't believe the news anchor said that!

user-pic

@meghannmarco:

You think we could get Justin Timberlake involved? I fear he may be too busy bringin' sexy back.

user-pic

I really want to know her name. I handle claims for a public entity in that area and I'd really like to know if we've come across her name before.....

user-pic

That's not a fall. That's called "slowly getting on your knees."

user-pic

That's not falling, that's frauding with style!

user-pic

@acambras: First reader to rewrite and perform this story as a music video (ala Timberlake) wins... nothing but I'll probably post it.

user-pic

@meghannmarco: Music video MUST include "HELLOOOO Captain Obvious"

user-pic

@timmus:

You realize your the first person who mentioned her race?

user-pic

Just because he's the first to mention it doesn't mean that other people weren't secretly thinking about it.

user-pic

I think you missed a step:

Step x)?????

user-pic

@AnnieGetYourFun:

Or maybe they weren't thinking it, and he was the first to notice it.

That said, before I went to the link, I read the comments first, so I honestly didn't know her race until I saw him note it, which kind of disturbed me.

user-pic

she should at least have to pay for the olive oil.

user-pic

@meghannmarco:

Can we title it: "Soft Corn Porn and Olive Oil Shenanigans" ?

user-pic

@timmus: Did you REALLY just turn this into a race issue? Jeez, even Ibelli wouldn't have taken it that far.

user-pic

Did we really need to bring up the fact that she's fat too?

Like it matters what she is, she tried to collect some money for nuthin' and it didn't work. Now she'll have to pay for all her fake meds.

Or will she sue them for taking this to the media and then sue the news channel for showing it? Bet she tries. she needs that money for the food.

user-pic

Did we have to bring up the fact that she is fat??
It doesn't matter if this lady was white as a sheet, dark as wesley snipes, or brown as apu....she is a scum bag that was trying to get money for nothing. I'm glad they got her on tape.

Will she sue them for handing it over to the media or maybe sue the news channel? she may try, I'll have to keep my eye on this one.

user-pic

@me: damn it took a while for that first one to pop up.

user-pic

@aro:

I used to work loss prevention in stores and at a mall. You would not believe how common that is getting.

user-pic

I wish I could hear what she said on that cell phone call before her "fall". "Let me call you back, I have to go take a dive in some olive oil... No, I'll call you right back."

user-pic

@Peeved Guy: Legal fees, smegal fees. I wouldn't even hire a lawyer. I'd just play the tape in court and rest my case.

user-pic

Yeah, so I've seen that done before, sort of. Used to work at a grocery store. Stocking soda, heard a woman scream "Help", and I go to the next aisle to see a woman in her mid-fifties stuck in a running lunge because her flipflopped foot had found its way into a puddle of laundry detergent. I don't think she faked it though, at all. Me and some fire fighters that were doing their grocery shop helped her stand up.
I had to file a witness report that said it was an accident, which my manager didn't like.
But, hey, I'm not gonna lie for a company that pays me 6.75 an hour to haul pounds of crap all day. Don't leave laundry detergent in the middle of the aisle, duh.

user-pic

I'm just curious about the medical expenses. They should this woman getting carried out by a gurney, no?

If they took her to a hospital or clinic, they should sue her for this kid of fraud.

The store may have spared itself a costly lawsuit, but the medical care she recieved no doubt costs ALL OF US thousands.
