People actually install updates? All the spam I'm getting says Skype's fingerpointing to cover its ass.

I find this hard to believe that this is Microsoft's fault. Every month Microsoft pushes out patches to Windows which result in users' PCs being restarted.

Something obviously changed on Skype's end.

@wymanator: Yeah, there has to be more to this. That many people worldwide not only doing an update at the exact same time but trying to get back onto Skype at the same time? What about time zones? What about people who put off doing updates? What about people who don't log into every damn thing at start up? What Microsoft Update was so important that all those people did it at once? How does Skype even know it was a Microsoft Update?

Even if it's true, it still doesn't make it Microsoft's fault that a huge number of logins can bring down their system.

Umm, perhaps a combination of default settings plus automatic updates is to blame. Some people do leave settings the way they are, you do realize. Millions of people. Perhaps trillions. For real.

I guess this is why you're not supposed to flush all the toilets in a building at the same time...
