Although, "Powerline"? Who named it, a nine-year-old boy?

Yay. Powerline broadband. Now everyone can have craptastic innernets.

Does anyone have experience with powerline broadband? and how would you rate its speed, reliability, etc. against hi-speed internet provided by, lets say, Time-Warner? i'd love to switch from TWC to DirecTV - more HD channels, NFL sunday ticket - but TWC's internet service kicks ass for me. Anyone?

Yes. Exactly what I was waiting for. We just made the switch to DirecTV last week from Comcast but I'm holding on to their internet service because there's no FIOS at my house. Guess it's just a matter of time til we can get rid of Comcast entirely!

As an amateur radio operator, let me be the first to point out that BPL (broadband over power lines) is strongly opposed to those of us who use the HF radio spectrum (3-30 MHz), since it turns huge chunks of that spectrum into one giant noise-fest.

@pestie: Okay, but we were talking about me. Will your amateur radio signals interfere with my pron downloads?

If you think Time Warner sucks, wait till you get a load of the crap that Directv puts on you. You own the upkeep on the equipment. If it breaks in half the day you get it, you still own both halves. The wait for service on broken equipment is 7-10 business days. Directv sucks!
