the site is getting hammered right now. every search returns "Too many connections"

"Many more are simple copy edits, or additions to local town entries or school histories. One CIA entry deals with the details of lyrics sung in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode."

I don't know if I find it comforting or worrisome that employees at the CIA slack off as much as I do at work.

@joopiter: Maybe it's a way to plant secret messages, by editing song lyrics in Wikipedia, they're communicating with spies.

Interesting how much Walmart edits the page about itself. This seems to be in conflict with the autobiography guidelines:

Walmart blowing smoke up the ass of readers?....Naaaaaaah. Couldn't happen. That'd be like them selling Nazi T-shirts, or Recalled food products...

Oh, yeah...

They did.

@B: Great, now I'm just going to waste more time at work deciphering hidden messages in wikipedia entries. Thanks. ;)

There are some things in here that really bother me, like the Church of Scientology editing the Dylan Klebold/Eric Harris entry to include a bit on how they were on antidepressants.

SNEAKY.

I just checked on Wikipedia the edits for my IP at work (we have a shared IP that has, probably a good 10,000 users on it) and most of the edits are either badmouthing the competition or disgruntled employees badmouthing this company.

But hey, if editing your company's Wikipedia article is the new "going postal", I'll take it.

The Democratic Parties defacement of Rush Limbaugh's wiki entry is priceless. "Rush Limbaugh has an audience estimated between 13.75 and 20 million listeners weekly according to the Arbitron ratings surveys, the largest radio talk show audience in the United States. Most of them are legally retarded"

It looks like this site made wired.com and was subsequently Slashdotted, Dugg, Consumerist-ed, and probably more. Might explain why it's not working too well right now...

user-pic

WalMart changed Costco's entry. Changing entries about yourself is one thing. Changing your competitor's is another.

@Jeff303

Hmmm...'Consumerist-ed' is a bit of a mouthful. How 'bout we just say something has been 'Consumed!'.

The Republican Party (or someone from their IP) is secretly in league with Lord Voldemort. Or, rather, GOP edited the Harry Potter main entry, deleted the whole thing, replacing it with

Severus Snape is the Half-Blood Prince. And he kills Dumbledore.

This was done when Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came out, 'natch. What kind of evil troll tries spoiling a book that millions of kids have been looking forward to for a year and a half? Oh, a Republican troll.

Charming. I guess they were bored that day from buggering boys, banning accurate sex ed classes, cutting money from classes, kids and teachers and jailing as many lil kids as humanly possible on that day.

I guess they must have been really pissed off by the ending of Deathly Hollows.

** spoilers ** (sigh)

Their role model not doing too well and all. I guess that's why Rove left the White House: job opening now that Voldemort's left.

@joopiter: "Once More with Feeling"? if it was that episode feel comforted. If it was the lyrics of some random pop song that ended up in a show feel worried.
