While child safety is without question a serious matter, one which I take seriously with regard to my own kids & their car seats, I couldn’t help but manage a chuckle at this one.
Why? There’s an army of people who swear by Britax car seats, as if to say that if you put your child in anything else, their death is an absolute certainty. There’s even that video on youtube about the 5-point harness until the kid is 80 lbs. (where the parents blather on about Britax, and have their daughter improperly seated in one – straps are twisted).
My kids are quite happy & safe in their Graco car seats which cost about half of what Britax seats do.
@Floobtronics: I can certainly understand the point you’re making, but I don’t think one recall makes Britax seats garbage IMO. Toyota has had a lot of recalls lately, but I’d still take em over Ford!
@foghat81: I didn’t say that the Britax seats are garbage, not at all. My point, which apparently, I didn’t make terribly well, is that they are not the perfect seat, as many people would have you believe. Even a perfect seat has to be used properly – i.e. the reference to the youtube video.
I too would take a Toyota over a Ford any day. Hey wait, I did.
I just called Britax customer service and I have never had a more pleasant and supportive experience. First, my call was received quickly. Second, as soon as I told them about the broken piece on my child’s car seat their immediate response was that they are going to replace the seat. No questions about how I used the seat, nothing regarding when or from whom I purchased it from… just “we’re going to send you a new one.” On top of everything I got to choose from any model of Britax car seat I wanted plus whatever color/pattern from those that are in stock. CRAZY! The representative explained that for as much as I paid for the car seat it should not break how it did and they stand behind their products. I should have my new seat within 3-5 business days and they are even sending with it a pre-paid postage label to send the only seat back.
It is unfortunate that this is a shock as opposed to a norm.
