Starbucks Prefers Not To Make You Ill
Reader Patrick sent us this photo of a Starbucks that was unwilling to poison its customers. He says, " Hurray for having a conscience!"
That's a sentiment we can agree with.

@letoofdune: Many, many people, I'm sure.
HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE SANDWICHES?? I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STUPID HEALTH REGULATIONS I WANT A SANDWICH NOW!!!!1!
Those sandwiches are disgusting anyway.. ever read the nutritional info on their "holiday" turkey/cranberry/stuffing sandwich? It's incredible that something like that can be sold as a single serving. Not to mention the wilted lettuce and soggy bread on the other sandwiches.
BTW, I wouldn't be so sure that -all- Starbucks stores would pull the sandwiches because of a bad delivery (or a faulty refrigerated display case).
@ SCOOBYDOO: Yeah, it's unfortunate but it's also good that they had the openness to tell their customers what happened.
I'm also curious if this will cause them to more carefully check their incoming shipments now, which would be great. I get the feeling that this was a case of the sandwiches being so blatantly "above safe temperature" that the employees where totally grossed out.
Just the other day, I stood in line behind a woman who ordered a piece of poundcake, which the cashier refused (very politely) to sell, since it was on the hard side, and probably not very good to eat. The customer didn't seem too miffed, and instead ordered a smaller pastry, which cost less.
I was impressed by the willingness to let go of some change in favor of the customers wellbeing. Starbucks may not have good coffee (I only go in for the M&M sugar cookies) but at least they are consumer friendly!
That's good to hear!
@nighthwk1: I've had the vegetarian sandwich several times and it was tasty! It was 380 calories so not that much considering it had a lot of cheese. As usual, quality will vary from store to store.
@mantari: They don't. I've seen cold trucks come in that are above 40° even after spending 3 hours in a refrigerated truck at 30°. The management at the store was told and corporate Wal-Mart said sell it anyway.
@iMike: I worked at a Pizza Hut Express at a Target a while back. One day someone left a box of pre-cooked egg patties out at room temp for several hours (they're supposed to stay frozen). My boss took a wiff and said they smelled fine so he stuck them back in the freezer. Needless to say I threw them out when he left.
@ptkdude: I always check the lid, perhaps one can be too trusting?
Kudos for not selling the sandwiches.

I get ill eating those things regardless of their delivery temperature.
