Roughly locate a phone number on a GoogleMap using the area code and 3-digit prefix. Good for helping track down telemarketers. [RMLABS via Lifehacker]

Not sure about anyone else, but it's totally off for Florida. I just ran through all of my #'s plus the numbers of my workplaces + a few clients...every single one is off substantially. Most aren't even showing in the same city! I'm carnally familiar with the telephone system in this area and know which COs each of the prefixes I entered come from, BUT not one of them was even close to the same area in this thing. A couple even came up as "no data available" despite being 20+ year old exchanges.

Better suggestion -- use DSLReports.com 's "Find my CO" option. It'll show you where the central office that the phone connection goes through. Far more predictable than this thing.

Also, with cell & VoIP becoming more prolific, expect tools like this to become virtually useless.

Number portability really throws a monkeywrench in this way of reverse lookups, but it's still handy to know.

They've started splitting exchanges in my area code now. I plugged in my office number (which was split about 2 or 3 years ago) and it shows the original location, over 350 miles away! This is a great idea (I wish I had thought of it first!) but the convoluted way the number plan has been mangled to provide for the demand makes for a very oddly organized database.
