OR, you could get your kids involved in scouting. For my business badge in Girl Scouts (many moons ago, I might add), my troop leader went to the bank and got free practice checks and ledgers.
For a badge activity we had to learn how to write checks and balance our checkbook. Not bad for a bunch of 4th graders.
