TBS Pauses Show Mid-Joke To Advertise?

Over at Broadband reports someone is saying that TBS has a new form of advertising where they actually pause the show mid-sentence to run an ad:

THEY PAUSED THE SHOW AT THE PUNCHLINE. Advertised their crap-ass made for the station show… then “Went back to the show” for another 10 seconds so the Joke could finish before going to regular commercials.

Oh I am so pissed.

Are they really doing this? Because that’s just absurd. Anyone got a YouTube or a screen shot? Thanks.

[Rant] TBS Has GONE too far.[Broadband Reports via digg]

This is terrible. I thought it was bad when I was watching the movie “Chicago” on TV (I think it was also on TBS) and they cut away to a commercial in the MIDDLE OF A FREAKING SONG… but this is even worse. Ugh.

This is where I applaud HBO (and Showtime). They show a lot of crappy movies, but when it comes to television shows, they have the respect for the directors to give a full hour block, and the balls to give different shows a chance. Shows like the Sopranos, The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deadwood, Weeds, Dexter, Six Feet Under, etc, each trump anything on television.

And to be honest, if I have to watch television, I watch it on my internet/computer. With no commercials.

TBS can be good at times but the way they cut up tv shows and movies really annoys me. I also don’t appreciate when they choose to air a movie that does not meet their censors ultra high paranoid ideals and they hack and slash it to bits so that it no longer resembles the original movie. They should just play Disney movies if they are going to be that over sensitive though I am sure they might take offence to some things mentioned in some disney films.

American adverts are already rediculous enough, though I guess only because they’re trying to force you to watch them.

Why have adverts just before something ends, then finish the last 5 minutes, then start something else straight away. It’s crazy.

Adverts between programmes or no adverts at all if there’s anything good on the BBC is where it’s at!

    @dashethand
We are having a fit because today it might be a 2 year old show, but tomorrow it could be a first run episode.

To quote a 50 year old show,
    “Nip it in the bud!”

  7. @lemur: VH1 has had pop-up ads during their shows which cover up the ENTIRE screen.

  8. drjayphd says:

Eh, it’s not as bad as MTV. Notice how the commercial breaks seem to be a little long? They’ve gotta be pushing five minutes per break. Nothing like selling tons of crap to the people who can convince parents to buy them stuff. And MTV2, when they show videos, cover up half the screen (the middle, no less) for the credits. Que pain.

  9. SJActress says:

I’m not sure their advertising money is dwindling because of TiVo–I think they just don’t have any shows decent enough to lure in advertisers.

I know this because my TiVo NEVER recommends anything on TBS. ;p

Tonight I was watching G.I.Jane, and right at the last 30 pivotal minutes of the show, it cut to commercial, then came back to the beginning…and NEVER fixed the glitch! Who the heck is supposed to be monitoring the broadcasting? I went to the website to complain, and their support is sub-par, to say the least. I’m so freakin’ angry!@ArtDonovansLovechild:
