Walmart Pet Food Recalled Due To Salmonella Contamination
Ol'Roy dog food sold at 69 Walmart stores has been recalled due to salmonella contamination, according to the FDA.
Only one specific lot of 55 pound bonus bags of Ol' Roy Complete Nutrition dry dog food was affected. Pets who eat the food or people who handle it could be infected with salmonella, so if you've purchased this dog food you're going to want to throw it out and return the empty bag to Walmart for a refund.
Don't haul in 55lbs of contaminated food and dump it on some poor blue vest. Please. Product info inside.

According to Doane Pet Care's websoite, they make dog food sold under 200 brands, yet only the batch made for Wal-Mart's was recalled.
Anyone who buys food with a Wal-Mart house label after this desrves whatever they get.
Wal-mart kills puppys like that.
If Doane had only put a totenkopf on the label, they would never have to worry about the recall...

As for the Wal-Mart recall, I'd haul that big ol' bag of dog food down there and throw it up on the counter. They should have to deal with the open, mostly-full bag after inconveniencing me. And how is only the one size of bag affected? Isn't it all the same stuff in the other size bags? This goes to prove that Wal-Mart does have lesser quality stuff made for them to get their price lower. I'll continue to buy my food elsewhere and keep my pet alive.

@mopar_man: Yes, how awesome are you. Were you never going to Wal-Mart again in your life, so it's that much trouble? Let's all be jerks to people who have nothing to do with the actual problem, maybe that's how things should be done. Hopefully you frequent the Behind The Counter Wal-Mart, and we'll be able to read about "The dog-food idiot who couldn't follow directions".
On the other hand, if you throw it away, some stray is going to end up eating it at the dump. Or some homeless guy is going to get it out of your dumpster and feed it to his dog, with whom he had been splitting every half-eaten burger he found.

You won't see me returning anything since I haven't shopped there in well over 8 months. That's just what I would do if I actually shopped there. Sure, call me an asshole but I'm just one. Wal-Mart is the world's biggest asshole.

Don't worry everyone, they have promptly taken all of the recalled food off the shelves. They will also be promptly restocked onto the shelves tomorrow morning before opening.
...so can I bring my dead puppy to Wal-Mart, fling it on the counter and demand they take care of the corpse too?
Ol'Roy brand of dog food was just recalled at WalMart because of potential salmonella contamination. What the hell is wrong with this picture lately? How many brands of dog food have been recalled because of some infectious disease? Seriously, this is just one more reason to hate WalMart, there is absolutely no quality control on these overseas cheap products that they import by the tons. What the hell do our tax dollars pay the FDA for? Aren't they supposed to be checking this stuff? Anyone who buys food, especially off brands, at Walmart, human or pet, is a damn fool.

I used to work for Doane Pet Care (and left just over a month ago - not for contamination issues, but because they're switching from Microsoft to Novell... but that's another story).
Doane, based in Nashville, TN, was bought by the Mars Pet Care company (sister company to Mars, Inc., so yes, we did have free candy all day long), after which Mars Pet Care moved its headquarters to Nashville from California.
Doane/Mars is the manufacturer of several brands of pet food - Ol'Roy, Whiskas, Pedigree, Sheba, Oscar, The Good Life Recipe, etc. Just because a pet food is named "Ol'Roy" does not mean it was manufactured by the same company. Mars makes the dry food, while Menu Foods makes the wet food; hence the reason Mars food was not recalled until this salmonella outbreak. Doane has several facilities across the US, each of which makes and distributes pet food for different stores.
Watch what happens - you won't hear Menu Foods making any kind of remarks about this one; the two companies have a "partnership" of sorts where neither will comment on the other's problems (like when Menu Foods basically recalled the whole planet).
@RadioBoy - those products are not imported from overseas. Get your facts straight. Wal-Mart buys from Menu Foods and Mars Pet Care independently based on the product. While Menu Foods bought its wheat gluten products from China, Mars does not, and therefore, this was most likely a single manufacturing plant that had an issue with their batch of food. Wal-Mart has nothing to do with the products; they merely buy from the distributor, and because they are the largest reseller of pet food, they get the most press. Go to your local PetSmart, and you'll see the very same products being removed from their shelves as well. Don't make yourself a damn fool by blaming people for buying at Wal-Mart. It's not their fault.
Salmonella will kill your dog fast. Ol'Roy dog food will kill him slow. This is some of the worst crap available to feed a dog. Made primarily of beaks, feathers and other trash the industry like to call "poultry by-products".
If you can't afford to spend more than five cents a pound on food then you should not have a dog.
