Oh, well, I guess we'll just have to restrain ourselves when something we want (as opposed to something we NEED) costs too damn much. You can't send a message to manufacturers when you're selling yourself into debt slavery to buy their crap.

What this will do to the price of toilet paper and medical equipment, though, I shudder to think.

Bring on the loads of even more cheaply manufactured crap with substandard materials!

The Chinese Poison Train is about to get a huge boost.

In a 5-4 decision, the court said that agreements on minimum prices are legal if they promote competition.

How would that promote competition?

Minimum prices aren't allowed? Somebody forgot to tell my knife dealers that (I work for a wholesale distributor). I see Minimum Advertised Prices all the time...

"Victoria is suing the maker of Starburst candies. .... the woman claims she suffered a serious jaw injury after chewing the candy."

In the video she claims that this has caused her trouble eating and talking. Both things she should do less of anyway.

To clarify: this ruling says that manufacturers can require retailers to sell their product at a minimum price. This does not say that retailers can collude with other retailers or manufacturers with other manufacturers to set a minimum price.

This is like Apple saying AT&T cannot sell the iPhone (to pick an example that is EVERYWHERE) for less than $500. It doesn't say that Walmart and Target can agree to sell iPods for at least a certain amount.

Bad news for Consumerists: we're apparently stuck with this incredibly shitty new page design!

um they've been doing this for years anyway. walmart, a discount realtor, selling Windows XP, Vista, Sony PS3, etc as the same price as target, CompUSA, etc. nothing new here, please move along
