Make A Camera Tripod From A Tennis Ball

1234 views

This nifty Instructable shows you how to make a tripod for light-weight cameras by cutting up a tennis ball.

As the author says, "The inner edge of the tennis ball is rubber, which makes a good non-slip, non-scratch foot."

Technically it's not a "tripod" because it doesn't have three legs, but hey, it's still a cool and cheap way to create a stable camera mount in a pinch. — BEN POPKEN

If you needed a quick way of taking a photo of yourself downing a dirty martini at the local tennis club's bar, this is fine, but if your camera is worth, say more than 50 bucks, I would suggest buying a small portable tripod for less than $20, or investing $50 (or more) for a real camera tripod that you will be able to aim any direction while your camera is almost at your eye level.

You can probably go buy a cheap table tripod for like less than $5 at walmart..

I think a dictionary would work just as well, and you wouldn't have to cut that up.

Yeah, considering that you're only getting 2" height max, I would say a thick dictionary would work better.

I have a strong feeling this would get squished under my 30D. :(

It's not too much of a "tripod" if it's not adjustable in any way :P

Wouldn't it be more stable if he didn't cut "feet" into it and just left the entire bottom touching the surface?
