Consumerist Neighborhood Garage Sale
We're selling some more of our old electronics on eBay. Everything is currently at $.99, except for the laptop which is up to $20.50.
We invite you to join our garage sale and post links to your eBay auctions in the comments. We talk about it enough as a way to help make some extra scrizzle and pay down debts, we figured why not make a party of it?
The first set of speakers are the only items that work perfectly. The rest are in some state of semi-brokenness.

.....Old school folk like me use a 4 ohm speaker setup. I'm happy with my AMR studio monitors from the Reganomics-era, anyway. Indestructible.
.....I'm hesitant about the whole reconing deal. I see you folks blow speakers out like I do! Chances are, you can find higher capacity driver for that speaker. I'm kinda surprised. JBLs were always tough as hell back in the 70s and 80s!
I see you've got a couple cell phones up for auction there! I don't know whether your local Verizon branch participates in a program like this, but at mine, there's a donation box for old/broken cell phones that an organization refurbishes to donate to victims of domestic violence (through a battered women's shelter).
After trying to Google the name of the program, though, I'm disheartened to offer the following:

Requiring Paypal is the height of hypocrisy. What incentive do terrible companies have to change if people, especially so called "consumer advocates," keep saying "Yeah they are an awful company, but it's convenient so I'll give them my money anyway."

@informer: postal money orders are commonly counterfeited & frequently used by nigerian advanced fee scams. i personally encountered these myself once. very close to the real thing, but just counterfeit enough to notice a fake (if you know what you're looking for).
also, just for the record (b/c ppl seem not to know this) - travellers' cheques only come in $20, $50, & $100 denoms. & gift cheques in $10, $25, $50, & $100 denoms.
@mac-phisto: Right, but making an ebay payment is not the same as an advanced fee scam. Simply don't accept PMOs that aren't the exact amount, and don't send the item until you've gone to the post office and have the cash in your hands. (I'm not sure why you are talking about traveler's checks though...)
ANYWAY! This is all really beside the point. What I was trying to get across is this: corporations would probably treat people a lot better if people stopped putting up with their shit, instead of caving because it's convenient.
@informer: i had a friend scammed with $500 traveler's cheques on an ebay transaction, so i thought it would be a good aside. i told him they didn't exist. he didn't listen. dumbass.
i get your point. it's unfortunate that there is not a comprehensive transaction system OUTSIDE paypal that would work as efficiently & come with the protections that it comes with. i guess you could run your own credit card checkout, but i don't think the benefit would outweigh the cost.
@mac-phisto: Right, but it's pretty easy to avoid advance fee scams. Simply don't accept POMs that aren't in the exact amount, and don't send the item until you are walking out of the post office with the cash in your hands. (I'm not really clear on why you brought up traveler's checks.)
IN ANY CASE! All this is really besides the point. What I was trying to get across is this: companies would treat their customers a lot better if people would stop patronizing establishments that have consistently poor service, instead of caving because it's more convenient (especially when credible alternatives exist).

I'll join the garage sale, I've got an amp here that needs to be sold:
