If you purchased a Honda between 1995 and 1997, you may be eligible for a free repair and tune up. Way back, during the age of Clinton, the EPA sued Honda for disabling part of the emission control system, which could lead several vehicle models to emit pollutants without issuing an engine warning to the driver. The EPA spanked Honda with a $12.6 million penalty, and the automaker agreed to spend at least $250 million repairing the defective systems. Here is where you come in.
You may be eligible for a free repair if you purchased a 1996 or 1997 model year Accord, Civic, Odyssey, or Prelude, or a 1995 Honda Civic. If you are eligible, what you get depends on your vehicle's mileage.
- 50,000-75,000 miles: You get a free engine inspection and a free emission system repair.
- 75,000-150,000 miles: You get a free engine inspection, free emission system repair, and a free tune up.
- Over 150,000 miles: Nothing. You get nothing, unless you repaired the emission system and can document the costs.

Usually this emission recall kit features a cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires and free oil change at a minimum.
And you forgot the Del sol.
What about Acura, technically they are a Honda.
The 1992-1995 Civic. What about that one?

I have a 96' Accord with 147K miles. The dealers says I need a letter from Honda. HondaUSA representative says the check engine light needs to be ON for them to fix it.
What course of action should I take?
My first thought: Will this "repair" lower the gas mileage?
My second thought: Ha! 150K? My '95 Accord is showing 198K, and the odometer stopped working about 4 years ago!!! Guess I don't quite qualify... rats...
