For the most part, it's seven years. Bankruptcies can stay on for up to seven years, while inquiries stay for no less than 1 and no more than 2 years.

On average, how many points might my credit score increase if a Chapter 13 BK is removed from my credit history after the seven year period? Does anybody have any experience or insight into this?
Actually, there can be multiple entries on your credit report for BKLs. Creditor entries, such as "BKL" (reporting a write-off for a bankruptcy loss) ages at seven years. But the federal courts also report the discharge, and those records can (note: can, not must) stay on file for up to ten years.

Max - What determines if an inquiry remains for 1 or 2 years? Also, since a number of inquiries can hurt your credit score, how many inquiries will it take to significantly decrease your score, say by 20 or more?
