Phoenix Aiport Uses X-ray Strip Search
An X-ray strip search device is being tested starting today at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Passengers selected for secondary screening are given an option of the X-ray, which uses low-dose radiation to see through clothes (with great detail) but not skin, or a pat-down. From CBS4:
Men will view male images and women will view female images, but privacy advocates are concerned that those more detailed, embarrassing images will be stored inside the machine and can be viewed at a later time.If the test goes well, the machines could be up and running at New York JFK and LAX by the end of the year. Guess we'll have to hit the gym before flying.—MEGHANN MARCO"It captures an image of a person as if they were wearing no clothes...and with quite a bit of detail," said Marc Rotenberg from the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
The manufacturer says the machine has been modified and only generates an outline, never an explicit image and nothing is saved.

.....Who the hell cares? I'd go through an airport line nude in front of strangers if it would speed the damned process up!
.....My main gripe on the Phoenix airport, and this is old, dating back to a two-hour layover in 1992, is that they had no decent food there. It was kind of cool to put your hand on the glass to the outside, though, and feel some amazing heat!
I guess men viewing male images and women viewing female images is OK in general but how about if:
-the viewer is homosexual?
-the viewed is homosexual?
Wouldn't there need to be about four different setups to sort this out? And based on the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, how would the TSA enforce this mess?
I didn't read the article (who does that anymore), but I wonder if anyone brought up the AGE of the person being viewed. I imagine there's going to be an agent now and then looking a bit too long at that 16 year old boy or girl... or 12 year old... or 9 year old...
And while I don't agree with the religious right that dirty pictures necessarily always leads to predatory behavior, I'm sure that staring at x-rays or outlines of young girls and boys all day is bound to eventually flip a switch in an agent's head.
Anyway, I don't have kids, but if I did, I wouldn't want any stranger looking at an x-ray or even an outline.
You know these days, I don't give a shit anymore. Air travel is like going to the dentist. It's going to suck, I just want it to be over with ASAP.
I just always make sure that on my return trip, all my dirty underwear is checked. They can go through it all the want but not in the presence of fellow passengers.
Why are they fooling around selling these machines to airports? These things could be the biggest thing to hit Costco and Best-Buy in this century. And, when they integrate them into computer games, well, the possiblities are really unlimited. Imagine the virtual reality possibilities of your mother-in-law fucking your brother-in-law. And, when you bring the family dog into the picture Aaaaaaah. I have to stop. Even I cannot continue. But, don't worry, if the video game people can market Grand Theft Auto, then there are no limit to the depravity.
Maybe this will finally finish off the last vestiges of prudery in this country.
Oh, wait, looking at Xrays will make the agents child molesters. I've got a great idea! We should have gay men looking at the women, and gay women looking at the men. Maybe that would finally cure them of their gayness!
I've said for years that one of these days I'm just going to snap and show up at the airport buck naked..or maybe wrapped in clear saran wrap. "Here you go guys, have at it!" Everyone should just be thankful that the TSA didn't decide to go with mandatory anal probes and nostril checks. Maybe that's next?
Personally, I think they should just hire doctors to monitor the machines, so at least while they're looking for bombs, you know..maybe they can catch that lung cancer or enlarged prostate while they're at it. Heck, the TSA could even bill your HMO every time you go through security. A few million X-ray exams at $500 a pop...wow, think of the possiblities!
As far as I'm concerned, this is just further proof that the terrorists have already won.

I wonder if you will get to view the x-ray image of yourself.
