Thieves Rip The Doors Off Of A Best Buy With A Truck, Steal iPods

A group of thieves hitched a truck to the front doors of a Best Buy and used it to rip the front doors off the building, according to WFTV in Florida. The thieves then led police on a high speed chase.

“I’ve never seen anyone pull hurricane shutters out like that,” said general manager Ole Goode. Goode said the outside is bad, but inside is even worse.

The crooks ran in, ripped cages off the walls, smashed glass cases and grabbed only the hottest items.

“Stuff like iPods, GPSs, laptops, probably stuff that’s easy to sell, sell quick,” Goode said.

After spending about 4 minutes looting the Best Buy, the thieves escaped in three vehicles that all went different directions. One driver crashed his BMW but escaped on foot. All of the suspects are still at large.

Something tells us there will soon be good deals on iPods to be found off trucks in the Florida area. No, we’re kidding. Don’t buy anything off a truck. Damn.—MEGHANN MARCO

Don’t buy anything off a truck.

Especially if storm doors are chained to the back.

Funny stuff, who cares about what happens to best buy though? They’re the devil!

That is jus hilarious. Prolly so excited that he was gonna make a few grands that he crashed his car and left it behind. Well mebbe it wasnt his car but he couldve had it. Oh the opportunity costs of robbin a BestBuy!

I’ve “bought” things off a truck..
    Got some really “HOT” deals!!
And I’d do it again if I had the chance..

  5. billybastion says:

I’m just glad to hear that Best Buy for once is the one getting ripped off.

Come to think of it, this whole robbery serves as a metaphor for how I feel when I go into their store. I feel ripped off, quickly dealt with, and must escape on foot otherwise I’ll get caught in the evil poor customer service “you need this warranty” net.

I am the only one who has had GOOD experiences with Best Buy????

Statistically, probably not. I mean, it’s hard enough being (in my opinion) assholes and borderline thieves to the majority of customers, so it’s really only natural that some poor lucky saps fall through the cracks.

For instance, I actually have returned open boxes of items with little to no hassle, once! The travesty!

Another time, I brought a printed ad from their website and got that price on a Divx dvd player instead of the $5 more on the in store model!

I’m totally expected to be on the receiving end of some harassment or negligence, but it takes dedication to truly be the worst of the worst.

    AlteredBeast: YES.

I’ve had a good experience with Best Buy, but seeing as I only buy electronica about once a year, I’m hardly in the majority.

  10. BobH says:

I’m curious why Consumerist has come around to not stealing photos from Flickr, but still feels it’s OK to take them (like this one, again without attribution) from news and other sites.

Spare me the “fair use” arguments. They don’t apply here.

I realize other sites do this. That doesn’t make it right. I’d be interested in hearing from the Consumerist team.

you’re right, billybastion. I wonder if they got the extended warranty on those doors and display cases?

  12. katana- says:

And I too have had nothing but good experiences as Best Buy. Of course, that could be because I never actually buy stuff from them, but rather use them to get handsy with something I saw online…

  13. katana- says:

and if you’re going to use a pseudonym at least make yourself sound tough – like Wolf Blitzer. Ole Goode? what are the store managers at circuit city and comp usa known as? il bruto and il cattivo?

  14. Wow.

I used to work at THAT Best Buy.

    “One driver crashed his BMW”
Something tells me that was stolen too.

  16. LatherRinseRepeat says:

I’ve had good experiences at Best Buy. It’s all about being a smart shopper. And knowing how to communicate with the people that work there.

  17. Bob says:

Maybe is was some execs at Circuit City looking to get some merchandise to sell.

  18. katana says:

    Someone took my name! :(

    Signed,
    Katana (without a dash!)

  19. katana- says:

Was your name at the Best Buy when it was robbed?

  20. CripCrapple says:

I wanted to reply to poster ahwannabe that I find it odd he buys his electronica at Best Buy or any music there for that matter. Buying music at best buy is like that hot chick you’ve been trying to get for months telling you that she has an STD but would still like to date you.
