Management Shake Up At Walmart

Disappointing sales growth at Walmart may have led to a series of management shake ups at our largest retailer, the latest of which involves the store’s website. According to Walmart’s Press Release, Walmart.com has a new CEO, Raul Vazquez :

Vazquez will retain oversight of all day-to-day operations at Walmart.com, and will focus on further integration of online and in-store capabilities that provide multi-channel options for customers, as well as expand the site’s overall merchandise assortment and product information.

CNNMoney blames sales:

“The changes follow disappointing sales growth in the United States after store renovations disrupted business and customers balked at some attempts to sell trendier merchandise.”

Yeah, but how does Vazquez feel about hentai? —MEGHANN MARCO

Also, the Wal-Mart web site completely blows. It looks and feels like something from 1999. Any change there would be an improvement.

Hmm I didn’t think that people who actually shopped at Walmart knew how to use the internet…Hmm learn something new everyday.

I find it difficult to believe there are going to remodel 1,800 Walmarts in 18 months…

I’m trying to picture a renovation that wouldn’t severely disturb their marketing philosophy. Getting rid of the risers would be a start–I noticed that they were gone at one store I visited a few months ago–but they’d also have to get rid of the crowding at floor level and the lingering stench of their disdain for humanity before I’d go back willingly.
