Opt-Out Of Sprint Selling Your Data

1418 views

Sprint notified customers that unless you opt-out, Sprint reserves the right to share your private calling data with third party marketers. Sprint hires these companies to market other Sprint services to you.

The data includes:
• whom, where, when, and for how long you call;
• what products and services you buy;
• how those products and services are configured;
• what details are contained in your bill.

You can call 1-(800)-865-7786 to opt out. Of course, that number is nowhere on the written notice, as Sprint seems to prefer the efficiency of you snail-mailing one in. Notice scan inside.

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

You make it sound like I'm going to get a call from Domino's if I use my cell phone to order pizza from Little Caesars. That's not what this is about.

They want to use your CPNI to sell you other Sprint services. They hire third-party companies to market these services, and will transfer your data to these companies unless you tell them not to.

Personally, I don't want my account data to be in front of anyone other than myself and Sprint's billing department, so I opted out when I got this thing in the mail. It seems like it had the phone number on it when I got it. Fewer people will respond if they have to put it in an envelope and send it back.

Good point, Mike_. I will clarify the post.

Does this apply to Nextel as well?

That you Consumerist... I think I will make you my homepage because of information like this.

Thanks for posting that phone number - my wife tossed that mailing and I didn't want to have to call the main customer service number to opt out. That number is nice and quick.

We haven't gotten the mailing yet.... and I've been the only one checking the mail lately as my partner's been in the hospital. But I think I'll call the 800 number anyway.

Thanks a lot for the post. I get my bill on line and haven't gotten this yet.
