Beware The Canadian Spy Coins
We used to just get annoyed when we found Canadian money is our US Money, now we have to suspect espionage. From CNN:
- In a U.S. government warning high on the creepiness scale, the Defense Department cautioned its American contractors over what it described as a new espionage threat: Canadian coins with tiny radio frequency transmitters hidden inside.
The government said the mysterious coins were found planted on U.S. contractors with classified security clearances on at least three separate occasions between October 2005 and January 2006 as the contractors traveled through Canada.

I thought these coins were the "special" coins like the rememberence day and people got spooked because they had red ink and black dots on them...

What you really have to be concerned about is the secret Canadian curling stone surveillance devices. If you ever see a 40+ pound hunk of polished granite with a handle sticking out of the top and it's in a place that it should not be (hint: you should only ever find 40-pound hunks of polished granite in graveyards and curling clubs and most tombstones don't have convenient handles), RUN!
I can see it now Troy:
"American troops fighting the insurgency in northern Toronto came under attack today when a RIE (Rock Improvised Explosive) was laid at the side of the road. American soldiers were overly confused by the object, thinking it was a harmless piece of debris, when the device went off. 14 soldiers were maimed including one who was impaled by a large broom. Investigators are on the scene, under heavy protection, trying to determine what exactly took place. The assault on Canada is now in its 3rd year, with President Jeb Bush committed to winning the war against communist north."
This isn't quite what it appears to be.

Mr. Reeves said it is a crime for anyone to tamper with Canadian money.
Yeah, and a spy would never, ever, cross-his/her-heart-and-hope-to-die, do anything illegal.
Crafty Canadians are trying to downplay this now that they've been caught. But I see what they are up to. Reeves, you magnificent bastard! I read your book.
Well, I seriously doubt that the US has anything Canadians would want to steal. If such coins exist, I'd be more likely to look at China, India, or any number of up-and-coming industrial nations as suspects.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the coins; it's the robotic beavers that you really have to worry about. If you're in a high-level restricted security meeting and you spot a suspicious beaver in the board room, mum's the word and call the DoD.

Other observers have questioned the utility of a radio transmitter inside a coin - it is unlikely to be able to transmit very far through the coin and small change is highly likely to end up in a parking meter, payphone or vending machine rather than staying in the pocket of the person you are trying to follow.
Traditional passive radio frequency identification chips also suffer from quite limited ranges.
The booklet notes that Information Technology Systems were most often targetted by foreign spies, the second most popular technology type was lasers.

It's all part of the Amish/Canadian conspiracy to steal all the buttons off our clothing and harvest Americans for the purpose of making more 'back bacon' (they are seeking revenge for their countrymen we've eaten in the form of Canadian Bacon on our Egg McMuffins).
The Amish aren't religious separatists: they are carefully constructed cells of an international conspiracy backed by the Canadians and the Shadow Governments of the w …
