All this talk of different devices being purchased loaded with porn and such leads me to a question... Are the goods we purchase being refurbished prior to being sold to us? If I go and pay for a brand new Zune (for some ungodly reason), am I risking getting a used one?

I would venture to guess that situations like these are less about the manufacturer screwing with it and more about the store trying to pass off previously returned merchandise as new. Someone probably already owned this one and used it, then returned it- most likely because they realized it was a Zune.

I wondered what happened to that Zune I returned. Errr... I mean I wonder if this is like the case of the woman that 'found' a finger in her Wendy's Chili.

First, I am not sure why everyone is knocking the Zune, my wife and I purchased a Zune for her as an earliy Christmas present, it has worked wonderfully, we have had no software errors or issues with compatability on either our desktops, or laptops. The viewable screen is larger and has better resolution than the Ipod. And there is no shortage of movies already on the 'net in a format that the Zune will handle.
Plus we arnt supporting those smarmy Apple vs PC commercials.

Secondly, I take serious question with anyone who happens to show up with a "insert mobile media storage device here" that happens to be loaded with porn, regardless of the type, brand new from a manufacturer. That they have had at home for any period of time. People can be just as dishonest as large companies, just smaller in scope.

How much do you want to bet Ms. Hideous, Cheap-Ass Nails files a lawsuit over this for her daughter's "emotional distress"? I had the same thought as Magister--did she do this herself for the publicity/free crap?

Probably most of the people ragging on them have never even had one. I am not even sure what it is. I know it is Microsoft, and even though it is totally different than just about everyone else, I like Microsoft. Aside from that joke of an OS called 2000, I haven't had any problems with any Microsoft product.

Regardless, whatever it is, if I needed one or thought it might be useful to me, then I would buy Mircosoft's version of it.

anyway, if it was pre-loaded with porn, why not just put it on ebay as such? I'm sure someone would happily pay to have their file transfers already finished for them, and she-claw wouldn't have to pay any of her inevitable court fees.

They said that the box looked like it had been opened previously and that the charger was missing. Sounds like a case of a prank to me.

Honestly though, devices of this type need to be checked before put back on the shelves or else people are going to start filing lawsuits. IANAL but if they have a receipt that says they bought it yesterday, and there is porn on it that has a download date of last week, they most likely have enough to sue Walmart.

Yes I'm aware that the date could easily be faked but it would be one person's word against another's.
