IDT Prowling Williamsburg Tonight

Jack, a resident of the Williamsburg borough of Brooklyn, writes:

"Two people came to my door just now and tried to sign me up for IDT Energy. A husky black man named Jean Hyppolite and a short black woman whose name I didn't notice, both carrying binders. I live in a heavily Hispanic part of Williamsburg (near Hewes JMZ) and I'm sure they're out scamming non-english speakers."

Beware of variable energy rates, hipsters. Of course, you don't really need to sign these contracts anyway. Your lightbulbs and heaters are powered by irony and wonderfulness of expression. — BEN POPKEN

Jean Hyppolite is the name of a French philosopher from the early and mid 20th century. I guess we can presume the woman's name is Hypatia of Alexandria. Goes to show nametags are often BS.

I live in Astoria in Queens and they try to get into my building all the time. I don't think it's a racially based scam because the IDT folks that are in my neighborhood come in all races and ethnicitys, like the rest of NYC. The problem is that they tell folks that they are "the electric company" and pretend to be ConEd when they try to get into a building.
