Fake Boarding Pass Creator Goes Free

Cnet is reporting that the creator of the fake NWA boarding pass generator has been freed and all charges dropped due to lack of criminal intent on his part. “They’ve given me back my passports, my computers, and I’ll be getting the rest of my stuff back shortly. Essentially, I’m a free man–with no charges filed,” Christopher Soghoian wrote on his blog Tuesday, talking about the investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana.

yeah I’d be selling it on ebay … rare Christopher Soghoian’s FBI seized PC! Own a piece of history, blah blah blah.

Isn’t the home-printed boarding pass for any airline easily forgable? These things don’t look very official in the first place — and no one scans them prior to boarding.

I’d only condone doing this if you’re interested in picking up traveling singles at the airport bar…

In Mexico City’s airport, I got hassled by security about my home-printed boarding pass — I ended up having to go to the ticket counter to get a “real” boarding pass (the old-style boarding passes that look like the old paper tickets).

Other than that, I’ve never had any trouble with the home-printed boarding passes. Of course, my name’s not Osama, either.

This just illustrates the brilliant minds at work at the FBI and Homeland Security! If someone (a terrorist) intended to hijack or blow up a plane, the LAST thing they’d do would be to jeopardize their evil scheme with a fake boarding pass. Everything would be legitimate to make sure they hit no snags before time to “push the button”. Way to go, Feds! You’ve really boosted our confidence! We feel sooo much more secure now!
