New Word For Corporate Shill Blogs

Dovetailing with the whole Wal-Marting Across America scandal, we thought flogs, for fake blogs, was pretty good.

Now Richard, on his Proceed At Your Own Risk blog, ups the ante.

"...commercial websites masquerading as blogs...I call them clogs."

Hell, why stop there? Why not just call 'em crocs?

Corporations are trying to leverage the same dubious media tactics on the internet they've used to subvert the so-called popular press. With the power of horde-based fact-checking, at least now we can unmask them quicker.

Attention, Walmart shoppers! This ad is for you! Woo hoo!

Meh. I like "flogs" a lot better. It brings to mind the visual imagery of me using a cat-o-nine-tails to mercilessly flog the fake blogger until bloody.

Flogging is also a better term because it reinforces the notion that a marketer is "flogging" its products to an audience. This double-entendre bridges the older use of the word with today's world of digital advertising.

I second that, adamondi. Also, 'flog' would work for any fake blog whereas 'clog' only makes sense if it's a commercial entity trying to do the fakeout.

The ways that corporate shills operate to confuse and divert, I would nominate "Fogs".

I was also thinking about "Togs" in honor of the immortal Tor Johnson but that made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Umm....let's talk deodorant!

I, too, vote for "flog" because saying flogosphere is more fun than clogosphere (which is most likely a fetish site.)

i just want to know what the hell is going on with that cow in the background. the one on the right side of the picture.

i say both are good. like "check out the clog for band 'x' on their myspace page". or 'remember when mcdonald's tried to trick us when they put out their fitness flog".
