Get Free Credit Reports By Mail Or Phone
In addition to filing online at AnnualCreditReport.com, there's two more ways to get a free credit report.
Call 1-877-322-8228.
Or mail in this form to
Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
The credit report sites will only let you get your report free for 24 hours, sometimes only once. Since some of the sites have lots of links and drop down windows, accurately printing out your credit report can be a bit of a chore.
These options are also good if you're paranoid about sending personal information over the internet and believe the phone and mail system is a lot more secure.
This is also good if If you're trying to help out a not-so-internet-savvy friend or family member. Using the phone or the USPS ensures they won't be sidetracked into paying for credit report services they don't need.

You don't actually have to even be turned down for credit to get extra free credit reports. I got a letter saying that I didn't qualify for 'optimum' rates on my homeowners' insurance because of something in my credit report. Turned out it was a big fat $35 a year, but I made them send me one anyway just because they suck.
I did the request by phone because I figure that costs them more to print it out and mail it to me.
Take THAT slight inconvenience, TransUnion!
I got mine from TransUnion. Why do I have to provide so much information, when the car dealership can do it quickly with only my social and an address?
I have to provide 2 credit card numbers, former address and other account numbers before I can get any info. But BOA (my bank) seems to check it every single month.

Also remember that you're entitled to a free copy of your credit report if you're ever turned down for a loan or credit card. Although I wouldn't go applying for 500,000 dollar mortgage every month or so. Could really mess up your credit schore.
