Motel 6's Non-Smoking Room Ingenuity
The only difference between a smoking room and a non-smoking room in a Motel 6: whether or not the ashtray is flipped upside down.

I entered the "non smoking" room at a Motel 6 in Sacramento, California, only to find an ashtray. So I called the front desk to complain and was told, "Oh, just turn it over, now it's a non-smoking room!"

I have an ashtray from a hotel that has, in big red writing across the inside "THIS IS A NON-SMOKING ROOM." It's not even a "turn over the ashtray" situation, this is written in the 'tray business end up. Why not just put a plaque on the table where the ashtray would be?
And those "sanitary napkins"? Just stick them up your nose and - voila! - no more stale smoke odor!

In my experience, the paper mache walls at Motel 6 do not discriminate between vaporous clouds, be they steam, flatulence, or cigarette smoke; they pass all of them freely. The only way to get a truly non-smoking room at a motel is to sleep at the bottom of the pool, it would seem.
