Data on Millions of Veterans Stolen

The old gray stallion ain’t what he used to be…

26.5 million veterans records, including Social Security numbers, were compromised during a burglary at the residence of a Department of Veterans Affairs data analyst who improperly took the material home.

The theft took place earlier this month but was not reported as it might have impaired the police’s efforts, said the police.

“They believe that this was a random burglary and not targeted at this data,” Veteran Affairs spokesman Nicholson said, nothing there had been a series of burglaries in the community where the employee lived.

There is no evidence that the data has been used to perpetuate identity theft, as of yet.
